Fair Winds and Following Seas - The crew of Sailing For Veterans welcomes you to join our mission to put smiles on the faces of veterans and honor all who served especially those who never returned. We do this by offering free day sails to veteran groups on our beautiful sailboat INDRA and by hosting maritime memorial wreath toss events at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown on a pontoon boat that holds up to 25 people.

Today we created a special photo album to honor **Wreaths Across America Day – Gloucester & Provincetown** 🇺🇸🌲

This album captures moments of remembrance, gratitude, and respect as our communities came together to honor the men and women who served our nation and are no longer with us. Each wreath laid represents a life, a family, and a promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make these ceremonies meaningful—from veterans and Gold Star families to volunteers and local leaders. A special thank you to those who ensured wreaths were laid in both Gloucester and Provincetown so every hero was remembered.

Please take a moment to look through the photos, say a veteran’s name out loud, and reflect on the lives behind the service.

**We remember. We honor. We teach.** 🇺🇸

Remembering the "Greatest Generation."

Angelo Klonis came to the United States as a 15 year old Greek stowaway aboard a ship bound for Los Angeles. He found his way to Santa Fe, New Mexico. On December 7, 1941 when he heard about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor he was so outraged by what had happened that he tried to join the Marines but was turned down because he wasn't a U.S. citizen. A few months later he successfully joined and served his country well.

This famous photo of Angelo made it on the front cover of "LIFE" magazine forever representing the fierce fighting spirit of the American soldier. His story is an incredible one and it is important that we salute the memory of Angelo and all of the men and women who fought in the US military beginning with the Pearl Harbor attack until the end of WW II. May his memory be eternal.

We honor the lives lost on December 7, 1941 when Japan attacked the United States, and the courage of those who served in the days that followed. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Bishop of Myra (now modern-day Turkey), known for his generosity (inspiring Santa Claus), protection of Sailors, and Defender of the Faith. Celebrated on December 6. The First Barbary War (1801-1805) began with efforts at diplomatic negotiations for the new sovereign nation of the United States and ended after daring US Navy and Marine attacks defeated the Barbary states. This first war with the Barbary States of Morocco, Tunis, Tripoli, and Algiers established much of the early U.S. Navy’s reputation and set the stage for American involvement in the Mediterranean for decades to come. A Second Barbary War in 1815, also known as the U.S.–Algerian War, resulted from a brief repudiation by Algiers of earlier agreements, but was ended in two months by the arrival of an overwhelming American naval force. Getting Indra Ready for Winter ❄️⚓

As the season winds down, we’ve been hard at work preparing **Indra** for the winter months! From securing gear and checking all systems to making sure she’s properly winterized, every step helps ensure she’ll be safe, protected, and ready to serve our Veterans again in the spring.

Thank you to Hodgdon Yacht Services who has supported **Sailing For Veterans** this year—your hard work on and off the water have helped us grow more than we ever imagined.

If you’d like to support Indra’s winter maintenance or help us get a head start on next season, you can donate at:

Here’s to keeping our vessel strong so she can continue to bring healing, purpose, and adventure to Veterans next year. ⚓💙

"By now I am used to suffering. I have endured so much in waves and war. Let this next adventure follow." -- Odysseus, Homer's The Odyssey

The Greek hero of the Trojan War Odysseus is reflecting on his arduous journey home and the many perils he has faced. His quote is used in the documentary to capture how trauma can return like a tide and the constant struggle veterans face after combat.

Mental health advocate and former actress Eliza Dushku Palandjian (Eliza Dushku) speaks with Elex Michaelson about a Netflix documentary, “In Waves and War” for which she is the executive producer. She is joined by Amber Capone and Marcus Capone, a former US Navy Seal featured in the film, which chronicles the effects of psychedelic-assisted therapies for veterans. Worth watching at -
