Our Story
The Cape Ann Garden Club, founded in 1924 is a small, traditional club with an Active membership capped at 70, we also have several semi-active and honorary members. Dues are collected annually, the funds of which go toward programming, civic plantings and other club expenses. As many club members reside out of state in the winter, meetings are held only during May-September. Monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Annisquam Village Hall and typically feature a brief business meeting, a gardening workshop or speaker, followed by homemade refreshments provided by members. The CAGC Board typically meets three times per year, often in the off season. In 2018 we applied for and were granted non-profit status. Fundraising events are a plant sale held in late May, grants and small fundraisers held within the membership of the club. Monies raised support civic gardening projects taken on by club members. Current projects include gardens at Gloucester City Hall and Grant Circle. Along with The Gloucester and Rockport Garden Clubs, CAGC was instrumental in the Plant Grant Project to redesign, renovate and maintain the plantings at Grant Circle on Route 128 at the entrance to our beautiful city. The club also provides monthly garden therapy to to elderly patients at Addison Gilbert Hospital. We are actively seeking new members who are citizens of Gloucester and who have an interest in general and civic gardening, garden therapy, environmentalism, climate change, etc. Any member may propose a new member who is a resident of Cape Ann. Two letters from members in good standing must support nominations for membership to the Membership Committee. All members are expected to attend meetings and participate in the various CAGC activities.
