Happy spring everyone! For the second year, Art for Equity is raising money to purchase books by q***r and POC authors for Gloucester Public Schools. Last year we donated over 800 books and provided to every school in the district. Will you help us make an even bigger impact?

Our goal is $10,000 and donations can be made through the Gloucester Education Foundation website! Just use their donation form and be sure to make a note in the special instructions box that your gift is for Art for Equity.

We love you all and we are so grateful for your ongoing support!💛💛

More behind the scenes, this time of embossing Peluda by Melissa Lozada-Oliva! I haven’t had a chance to read every book Art for Equity donated this year, but I did read Peluda and it was great! I think it would have been really meaningful for me to have read and discussed it as a high schooler. So I’m extra happy that other kids will be able to!💛

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! In reflecting on Independence Day, Art for Equity gave to several Native American individuals. It’s a small act as we work to be better allies. The Pawtucket people made their lives on Cape Ann long before the establishment of the towns and cities we know. The impact of their communities - both past and present - is important and deserves attention. It’s really interesting to learn about - do some research if you have a moment :) And be sure to enjoy the fireworks tonight! 💛

Pictured are some books by Native American authors that are now at the middle school!

[I Can Make This Promise by Christine Day, The Bone Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline, Indian No More by Charlene Willing and Traci Sorell, and Dreamin’ in Indian by multiple authors]

behind the scenes! Prepping Chlorine Sky, by the truly incredible Mahogany L. Browne, for distribution. We bought 30 copies for the GHS English department, making it possible for the novel to be integrated into the curriculum next year 😊

all of our books are embossed with our name and some also include the names of our sponsors.

shoutout to The Sawyer Free Library- their stickers are featured and their funding helped make this happen :)

Endless books means endless organizing. But it’s honestly the best problem to have 🙂
