باب الذِّكْرِ الْمُسْتَحَبِّ عَقِبَ الْوُضُوءِ ‏‏

📘 Sahih Muslim 234a

'Uqba b. 'Amir reported:

We were entrusted with the task of tending the camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures, I found Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stand and address the people.
I heard these words of his:

🌱 If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him.

I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this.
When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar who said:
I see that you have just come and observed:

🌱 If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says:

☝🏻 I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

What are the Merits of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah?

Question:

Are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah more special than other days?

What are the righteous deeds that it is recommended to do a lot of during these ten days?

Summary of answer:

1-The ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are among the great seasons of worship which Allah has favoured over other days.

2-So, the Muslim should start these days with sincere repentance to Allah, then he should do a lot of righteous deeds in general, then he should pay attention to doing the following deeds:
observing fasting, reciting tahmid, tahlil and takbir, offering Hajj, ‘Umrah and Udhiyah.

For more, see the detailed answer below.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah.

Merits of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

Among the great seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, which Allah has favoured over other days.

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”

They said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?”

He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything.”
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari, 2/457)

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“There is no deed that is better before Allah or more greatly rewarded than a good deed done in the (first) ten days of Al-Adha.”

It was said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?”

He said: “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad taking his wealth with him and does not come back with anything.”
(Narrated by Al-Darimi, 1/357; its isnad is hasan (good) as stated in Al-Irwa’, 3/398)

These texts and others indicate that these ten days are better than all other days of the year, with no exception, even the last ten days of Ramadan.

But the last ten nights of Ramadan are better than the first ten nights of Dhul-Hijjah, because they include Laylat al-Qadr, which is better than a thousand months. (See Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 5/412.)

Recommended deeds during first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah

So, the Muslim should start these days with sincere repentance to Allah, then he should do a lot of righteous deeds in general, then he should pay attention to doing the following deeds:

1 – Fasting

It is Sunnah for the Muslim to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah .

This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) encouraged us to do righteous deeds in these days.

Fasting is one of the best of deeds, which Allah has chosen for Himself as it says in the hadith qudsi:

“Allah says: ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it.” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari, 1805)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah.

It was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khalid from his wife, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah and the day of ‘Ashura’, and three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays. (Narrated by Al-Nasa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawud; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Abi Dawud, 2/462)

2 – Reciting tahmid, tahlil and takbir a great deal

It is Sunnah to recite takbir (saying Allahu akbar (Allah is most great)), tahmid (saying al-hamdu Lillah (praise be to Allah)), tahlil (saying La ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but Allah)) and tasbih (saying Subhan-Allah (Glory be to Allah)), during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, saying these words out loud in the mosques, homes, streets and every place in which it is permissible to remember Allah, to perform this act of worship openly and proclaim the greatness of Allah.

Men should recite out loud and women should recite quietly.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allah on appointed days, over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice).” [Al-Hajj 22:28]

The majority are of the view that the “appointed days” are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, because Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the appointed days are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“There are no days that are greater before Allah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahlil, takbir and tahmid during them.” (Narrated by Ahmad, 7/224; its isnad was classed as sahih (sound) by Ahmad Shakir.)

Formulas of Takbir

The takbir is as follows:

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha ill-Allah, Allahu akbar, wa Lillah il-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god but Allah; Allah is Most Great and to Allah be praise).

And there are other versions.

This takbir has become a forsaken Sunnah nowadays, especially at the beginning of these ten days. You can hardly hear it except from a few. It should be recited out loud, so as to revive the Sunnah and remind the heedless.

It was proven that Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to go out to the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting the takbir out loud, and the people would recite takbir when they heard them, i.e., the people would remember the takbir and each one would recite it by himself; it does not mean that they recited in unison – that is not prescribed in the Shari`ah.

Reviving Sunnahs that have been forgotten brings a great deal of reward, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

“Whoever revives one of my Sunnahs that has died out after I am gone, will have a reward like that of everyone who does it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”
(Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi, 7/443; this hadith is hasan (good) because of corroborating reports. )

3 – Doing Hajj and ‘Umrah

One of the greatest deeds that can be done during these ten days is Hajj to the sacred House of Allah.

Whoever Allah helps to go on Hajj to His House and do the rituals in the required manner will – in sha’ Allah – be included in the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

“An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise.”

4 – Udhiyah (Animal sacrifice)

One of the righteous deeds that bring a person closer to Allah in these ten days is to slaughter the sacrifice and to look for a good, fat animal and to spend money on it for the sake of Allah.

Let us hasten to make the most of these great days, before the negligent regrets what he did, and before he asks to go back and receives no response.

And Allah knows best.

📚 HADITH 1

Actions are by intentions

It is narrated on the authority of Amir al-Mu'minin (Leader of the Believers), Abu Hafs 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), say

"Actions are according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended.

Whoever migrates with an intention for Allah and His messenger, the migration will be for the sake of Allah and his Messenger.

And whoever migrates for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration will be for the sake of whatever he migrated for."

📖 Commentary Summary

This hadith is central to Islamic thought, culture, and understanding and shows the balance between the internal and external states of oneself.

This hadith is great in its benefit and importance, and it has been said that Islam revolves around it.

Scholars have commented that this hadith comprises one-third of knowledge because the actions of man involve his heart, his tongue and his limbs, and hence the intention in the heart is one-third of action.

It is also deemed to be one-third of knowledge due to scholars commenting that this hadith along with two others comprises the religion of Islam.

The other two hadith being

“The Halal is clear and the Haram is clear and between them are doubtful matters”(1), and

“Whoever innovates in this religion that which is not from it will have all his actions rejected (by Allah).”(2)

Actions are based on intention

The connection between action and intention highlights the connection between the physical and the spiritual components of any human.

This hadith emphasizes on the importance of having an intention for every physical act that we do, and the importance of having a purpose for every action.

It also brings to the forefront our conscious intention and the need to make the connection between our physical actions and their spiritual consequences.

Intentions lead to results.

When a change in intention occurs, a change in the external conditions will follow.

Intention is also enough for Allah (swt) to make a change in our reality, so we should not belittle the necessary change in intention that has to occur in order for our external condition to change.

Specifically in regards to Islamic work and worship, the quality of intention is very important.

Involvement in Islamic work should not be primarily intended for marriage or fame, but to worship Allah, help our community and spread love amongst our community.

Being a visionary

The believers should be visionaries because they should always be checking their intentions and understanding the purpose of their actions.

They should be persistently asking themselves about their intentions for their short term and their long goals.

Overall, the believer should constantly ask himself; “Why am I doing what I am doing?”

Using the words “shall have" in this hadith means that the person will be rewarded for only that which he intended.

So, as mentioned in the hadith, if a person performed the Hijrah, but did it with a different intention then he would not be rewarded for that action of Hijrah.

Showing Off

Riya?, the showing off of deeds publicly, is a major sin which ruins sincerity and can invalidate actions.

In the wording of the hadith, the use of the word “by” in “actions are but by intention” refers to the fact that the acceptance and correctness of any action depends on the intention behind it.

For example, giving money in charity will not be accepted as a good deed if it was for the sake of showing off to others.

The Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) informed us that if you perform an act for the sake of someone else rather than for Allah’s sake, then Allah will reject that deed entirely and will leave the reward of it for the partner that the person has made.

This highlights the implications of showing off as well as the graveness of associating another person in your actions which should have been for the sake of Allah (swt).

As mentioned in the hadith, 'Thus he whose migration was for Allah and His messenger, his migration was for Allah and His messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to take some woman in marriage, his migration was for that for which he migrated.”

Conclusion:

Everything we do has to be intended for the sake of Allah (swt). A good action with the wrong intention will not get us any reward in the Hereafter.

While I was sitting with `Umar bin Al-Khattab a funeral procession passed by and the people praised the deceased.

📖 Chapter: Invocation before the Taslim

باب الدُّعَاءِ قَبْلَ السَّلاَمِ

📗 Sahih al-Bukhari 832, 833

Narrated `Aisha:
(the wife of the Prophet)

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah in the prayer saying

"Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min `adhabi l-qabr, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-masihi d-dajjal, wa a`udhu bika min fitnati l-mahya wa fitnati l-mamat. Allahumma inni a`udhu bika mina l-ma'thami wa l-maghram.

(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, from the afflictions of the imposter- Messiah, and from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt)." 🤲🏻

Somebody said to him, "Why do you so frequently seek refuge with Allah from being in debt?"

The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "A person in debt tells lies whenever he speaks, and breaks promises whenever he makes (them)."

`Aisha also narrated: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in his prayer seeking refuge with Allah from the afflictions of Ad-Dajjal.

📌Tafseer of Surah At - Takwir (verse 15-29)

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 15*_
_*So I swear by the retreating stars*_

🔸uqsimu bi – i swear by

🔸al khunnas – plural of khanis –Most Scholars says Khunnas are the stars that withdraw (disappear) during the day and sweep across the sky (appear) at night.''

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 16*_
_*Those that run [their courses] and disappear*_

🔸al jawar – jara/jawran – a shooting star that travels out of its original place and disappears. This word is also used for the hiding place of a deer that you might see for a moment and then it hides.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 17*_
_*And by the night as it closes in*_

🔸wal layli idha uss-‘uss – when the night as it approaches and departs.

🔸This verse has two meanings One of them refers to " Its advancing with its darkness" and the other is to retreat.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 18*_
_*And by the dawn when it breathes*_

🔸Tanafas – To breathe. Breathing of the day means when the morning replaces the night and becomes bright.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 19*_
_*[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger.*_

🔸Kareem - Noble

🔸qawl – It’s not your own speech rather someone else’s words that you are just delivering.

🔸In ahadeeth narrations – the narrators would say; qaala Rasool Allah ﷺ, since it wasn’t their speech rather, they are narrating the speech of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ ,so they say “Qaala”.

🔸Kalam ; is ones own speech.

🔸Indeed this Qur'an is being conveyed by a noble messenger Jibril, who is strong and trustworthy.

🔸 The polytheist thought that Holy Prophet ﷺ is possessed and shaitan brings him the messages. Allah s.w.t refutes the claim of these polytheists in this verse by saying that the Honorable Angel Jibril a.s brings revelations to the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Allah s.w.t swears by the brightening of the dawn by comparing it to the revelation.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 20*_
_*[Who is] possessed of power and has a very high rank with the Owner of the Throne.*_

🔸dhee quwattin – in possession of great strength.

🔸Arsh - Throne

🔸makeen – secure in position.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 21*_
_*Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.*_

🔸Muttaa’in – He is obeyed

🔸Jibreel A.S is obeyed by other angels voluntarily (lovingly).

🔸What a great honour for Jibril A.S to enjoy such a high status with the Lord of the universe. He is obeyed by the other angels and is “Trustworthy” with the revelation.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 22*_
_*And your companion is not [at all] mad.*_

🔸Sahib – companion

🔸majnoon - someone whose intellect has been covered – i.e. insane.

🔸The Arabs knew the Prophet ﷺ since his childhood, they knew that he was a man of upright character, known for His ﷺ honesty and trustworthiness, yet accused Him ﷺ of insanity and mocked that He ﷺ claims that an angel comes to Him ﷺ and bring revelations.

🔸 Quran is the most authentic message of Allah swt which takes us out of the darkness of doubts into the light of faith and conviction. Our salvation lies in holding on to its teachings firmly but unfortunately shaitan has led people away from Quran and they only run after this worldly life.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 23*_
_*And he has already seen Jibril in the clear horizon.*_

🔸ra’aa hu – saw him.

🔸Allah swt says that the Prophet ﷺ is not making it. He ﷺ undoubtedly saw Jibrael A.S with his own eyes, on a clear horizon

🌿🌿 *AYAH 24*
_*And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.*_

🔸Allah swt says , Prophet ﷺ has not concealed anything. Whatever knowledge he had regarding the angels, life after death and Resurrection, the heaven and hell, conveys everything without any change.

🌿🌻 *THE QU'RAN IS A REMINDER FOR ALL THE WORLDS AND IT IS NOT THE INSPIRATION OF SHAYTAN* 🌻🌿

🌿🌿 *AYAH 25*
_*And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].*_

🔸Rajeem - expelled

🔸 Allah swt is saying it is not the Shaitan's word and nor its delievered by shaitan.

🌿🌿 *AYAH 26*
_*So where are you going?*_

🔸Allah swt is questioning as to on what basis are you refuting this authentic Quran.

🌿🌿 *AYAH 27*
_*It is not except a reminder to the worlds*_

🔸But only those can benefit from this Magnificent Quran who truly have a desire to be guided to the straight path.

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 28*_
_*For whoever wills among you to take a right course.*_

🔸li – for
mun – who
sha’a – wants to
min k*m – from you

🔸yastaqeem – to be upright and firm, To become right and proper.
🔸Allah’s guidance is the greatest gift on this earth. He gives it to only those who ask with utmost sincerity and seriousness. We need to connect with the Quran to be the recepient of Allahs swt guidance.Anyone who wishes to be firm on the right path then he should hold on to Quran. Allah the most merciful and the most compassionate Rabb, is reminding us in this most beautiful verse that if you have opted for guidance then it is only because of the blessing of your Lord that He “allowed” you to make this choice:

🌿🌿 _*AYAH 29*_
_*And you can not will, except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.*_

🔸This verse clearly explains that one cannot do anything without the will of Allah swt. We should only pin our hopes and aspirations to Allah swt. Allah’s Decree should be not only accepted but we need to bear it with fortitude and patience. Secondly, only those are recipeints of Allah’s guidance who strive for it, who desire it with all their heart and soul. Guidance is a huge blessing of Allah swt; we need to be deserving of it and definitely yearn for it.
The path to our guidance; Quran

🔸It is, therefore, man’s own will which leads him away from Allah’s guidance. He has no other excuse or justification.

*This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat At-Takwir*

✨May Allah swt helps us to remember the worth and importance of all His blessings so that we use them positively for ultimate success and happiness... ameen.

🌿🌻 *_ACTION POINTS:_* 🌻🌿

✨And you do not will except that Allah wills. so, ask Allah swt.

AL MALIK

Allah calls Himself Al-Malik— The King and Owner of Dominion— on five occasions in the Quran.

He is the King, the owner and ruler of the whole creation.

Al-Malik gives authority to whomever He wants in this world, and He has supreme authority and is ruled by no one!

The King, the Ruler, the Owner of Dominion
Malik, Maalik and Maleek all come from the root maa-laa-kaa, which points to three main meanings.

The first main meaning is to have possession and ownership.

The second is to have power and ability and the third main meaning is to control and have authority.

This root appears 206 times in the Quran in ten derived forms.

Examples of these forms are malakat (“possess”), mulku (“dominion”) and al-malaa’ikatu (“the angels)”.

Linguistically malik refers to the attribute of mulk; which points to power and ability:

They do not possess ability. [Quran 13:16]

Mulk also means possession and ownership:

To Him belongs the Ownership of the heavens and earth [Quran 2:107] as well as control and authority:

O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us? [Quran 40:29]

Al-Malik is simultaneously the Ultimate King, Ruler, and Owner of all beings.

Al-Malik Himself says: So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth . . . [Quran, 20:114] Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah , the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise . . . [Quran, 62:1] The Sovereign of mankind . . . [Quran, 114:2]

A breathtaking scene with the King

Describing an amazing and humbling moment on the Day of Judgment, the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said:

Allah will grasp the earth and fold up the heavens with His Right Hand and proclaim, I Am the King! Where are the kings of the earth? Where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant? [Al-Bukharee, Muslim]

No one will speak and the kings and rulers of this world will be left with none of their “power.”

How can you live by this name?

1. Stay within the limits of Al-Malik.

Would you drive 60 mph while in a 30 mph zone when you know a camera is ready to record you and fine you accordingly?

In your daily life keep reminding yourself to remain within the bounds set by Allah, al-Malik, your King, and imagine both His punishment and reward.

2. Don’t use the name Al-Malik.

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam also said:

The most despicable name to Allah is a person who calls himself the king of kings, while there are no owners except Allah [Al-Bukharee, Muslim].

The name Al-Malik belongs to Allah ‘azza wa jall only.

3. Be patient and be a king in the Hereafter.

The real sovereignty in this world for you is to strive for self-control.

Don’t be a slave of money, fashion, or desire, but suppress your desires and constantly strive against the whims of your ego to please Al-Malik.

As is beautifully quoted:

Desire can turn kings into slaves and patience can turn slaves into kings!

Recognize His ways of bestowing kingship:

Say, O Allah, Possessor of sovereignty, You give kingdom to whom You will and take it away from whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent! [Quran, 3:26]

So be patient in times of hardship and in striving to stay away from what is forbidden by Al-Malik and He will give you an eternal kingdom in the Hereafter in-sha-Allah.

4. Ask Al-Malik.

Whenever you feel disheartened tell yourself Allah ‘azza wa jall is your Malik and you are part of His Kingdom. He does whatever He wants [Quran 36:82] and when something “bad” happens to you, know this is from His wisdom and that no matter how impossible your situation or ambitions seem, you can always ask Him only for a way out. Nothing is impossible for Al-Malik.

5. Be just.

All kings and owners, just or unjust, are low compared to Al-Malik.

You are responsible for whatever you have authority over, and you will be accountable for it.

In reality you don’t own anything; it all belongs to Al-Malik.

So be just to your spouses, children, and even animals, and remind yourself that you will be dealt with by the King on the Day of Judgement.

6. Humble yourself in heart and body.

Never be arrogant, and keep reminding yourself that you are an ‘abd (slave) of Al-Malik, no matter how rich or self-sufficient you might feel.

Al-Malik reminds you of what your priority in your daily-life should be:

Then High above all be Allah, the True King. [Quran 20:114]

Be humble in your heart but also in your speech and appearance.

Using foul language, speaking poorly of others, or having an arrogant body posture are not features of a believer who humbles himself or herself for Al-Malik— He sees you 24/7.

7. Praise Al-Malik.

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, whoever says: la ilaha il Allahu waHadu, la shareeka lahu, lahul Mulk, wa lahul Hamdu, wa huwa ‘alaa kuli shayyin Qadeer -None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent- 100 times he will receive the reward of freeing ten slaves, one hundred hasanaat will be written for him and one hundred misdeeds will be washed away. He will be shielded from shaytan until the evening. No one will be able to present anything better than this except for someone who recited more than this. [Al-Bukharee, Muslim]

The Prophet also used to say immediately following the witr prayer:

Subhaan al-Malik al-Quddoos (Glory is to the King, the Holy) three times, and raising and extending his voice on the third time and then saying:

Rabbil-malaa’ikati warroohi ( Lord of the angels and the spirit) [An-Nasaa’i].

O Allah, Al-Malik, we know that You are our only King and Owner. Help us in following Your commands and in being Your righteous slaves, and adorn us with patience and humility.

Guide us in being just in all our daily affairs, and admit us to Your Kingdom of Paradise, ameen!

And Allah knows best.
