Five years.

Jesse and I lived in the Bay Area when we were little, and our younger sister was born there. I thought we were a 9ers family, but that’s just because Lions never made it far enough for someone like me to take notice. At one point during tonight’s game I started to cheer for the 9ers and stopped short. I said to my dad “Shoot! I’m so used to seeing red and gold, I forgot who I’m cheering for here!” My dad laughed.

Overall a good game. And I enjoyed these last few weeks with my dad, learning all the backstory and lore of the Lions. I really admire the Lions coach, Dan Campbell, and way his players talk about him. And I didn’t mind looking at Goff on the field (anyone else thinks he looks like Gosling??) It’s disappointing for sure, and I’m not a good enough sport to watch the Super Bowl now lol. Who knows, maybe I will, just because my dad will be watching it.

I think I’m actually looking forward to what the Lions will do next year. 💙🩶💙🩶💙🩶💙🩶

My prediction this morning to my dad was, Kansas City will win because Taylor Swift puts butts in the seats. Second, the Lions will win because everyone likes an underdog. Lions have the first touchdown and Niners are fighting hard! Starting out as a good game!! I’d love to see Lions take on last year’s Super Bowl winner!!!

Last time Lions have been to a championship game was 1957, and they won. Too bad it was 10 years before the first Super Bowl.

32 years! Last time the Detroit Lions won a playoff game was 32 years ago! Again, they’ve been playing football for 94 seasons and have never been to the Super Bowl, and this is the closest they’ve come in 32 years! My dad is a fountain of knowledge, but the one thing he couldn’t recall for certain was the three years the Lions were in a different state, under a different name. I just googled it and got pretty excited when I saw a tie to Jesse’s life. The Detroit Lions were originally the Portsmouth Spartans, 1930-1933, and Jesse has lived in Portsmouth! So, I’m adding a pic of Jesse with his Portsmouth VA hat!

The game starts at 3pm eastern, today! Join us, with Jesse and my mom in spirit, and let’s see if the power of positive thinking can get the Lions another win!! Today the Lions have home field advantage against the Bucs, who they already beat earlier in the season 20-6.

Go Lions!!!!!

The Detroit Lions is Jesse’s favorite football team. While Jesse lived all over the country, he never lived in Michigan. Jesse loved the Lions simply because my dad does.

My dad started the football season in Michigan, where he happened to be because he was adding my mom’s ashes to the family burial plot. He was staying with his longtime childhood friend and watched the game at his house.

I’m not a big football fan, but today I am watching the game with my dad. Usually Jesse would be watching with him. When he was gone, my mom would watch with him. Now she is gone, so tonight I am watching with him.

I don’t want to go into details, but Jesse and our mom had a strained relationship. Simply put, they were both bull-headed and never backed down. But one thing they always agreed on, unequivocally, was how much they both loved my dad.

And if there was any way to influence my dad’s favorite team while alive, they would have made it happen. Now that they are gone, I like to think their combined energy is pushing the Lions this year.

I had been toying with the idea of actually attending the Super Bowl, but today found out cheap tickets are around $9k!!!! (Again, I don’t know much about football, lol!) That’s A LOT out of my price-range so perhaps we will have a Super Bowl party. I would like to extend in invitation to all friends and family to think positive thoughts about the Lions, even if they’re not your team. It gives us who loved Jesse the opportunity to share in what he loved and remember him.

Let’s go Lions!!!!!
