2.2 Mile Walk Aims to Combat Rate of Veteran Su***de
Who: Glidden American Legion Post 247, and the Glidden Lion’s Club will host the BE-THE-ONE 2.2 Mile Walk, and WALK/RUN/ROLL 2 Mile and 5K event which is aimed at reducing the number of veterans lost to su***de and to raise improvement funds for Marion Park in Glidden. Everyone is invited to attend.
Why: The American Legion is leading a nationwide effort — Be the One— to eliminate the stigma related to mental health treatment, and in turn, lower the number of veterans who die by su***de every day. Estimates show 22 veterans are lost to su***de daily. The American Legion has elevated Be the One to be its primary mission, empowering veterans, servicemembers, their family members and civilians to act appropriately when a veteran may be at risk. Additional designated funds to be donated to improve the park’s amenities.
What: The BE-THE-ONE 2.2 Mile Walk event will be a slow walk following the United States Flag for veterans and the community to communicate with each other. Donations for this event will be provided to the American Legion Troops & Family Support Program, which ensures that every eligible Wisconsin veteran receives the help they need to enhance his or her everyday life when returning home to a community of active support. The WALK/RUN/ROLL 2 Mile or 5K is a novice fun event to raise funds for Marion Park improvements. Any runners will be started before the walk.
When: Registration will start at 7:30 am, Saturday September 5, 2026 and events will begin at 8:00 am. Additional details and information can be found in the Glidden Enterprise newspaper.
Where: The BE-THE-ONE 2.2 mile walk will begin at Marion Park, 668 Park St, Glidden WI 54527. Located off of Hwy 13 on either Park Street or Kempf Roads, at the intersection of both, near the baseball field on top of the hill.
