Hydrant Flushing
The Glenwood Fire Department will start flushing Hydrants during the month of November. The Fire Department will flush the North side of Glenwood starting November 7th and ending on November 14th.
The Department will then move to the South side of town starting November 14th and ending on November 21st.
Why Do We Flush Our Fire Hydrants?
An annual flushing program helps to insure that all hydrants are in proper working order. It also helps to maintain our city's water lines by preventing any sediment to build up in our system, which helps maintain water quality, as well as water pressure for fire protection.
Why Is My Water Discolored?
We try to notify our citizens when we are flushing fire hydrants, because sometimes it will temporarily cause water to become discolored. This poses no health concerns, but we recommend you avoid washing light colored clothing when we are flushing in your area. All discolored water should clear up shortly after hydrants have been flushed.
On November 26th, December 10th, and December 17th you may see the Fire Department in your area finishing pressure checks. If you see discolored water in your area between November 26th thru December 17th please notify the city to increase flushing in your area.
