The Loess Hills Maker Space will be closing permanently on 30 June 2026.

You probably have a lot of questions, so I'll attempt to answer them here:

Why are we closing?

We don't have enough paying members to continue to pay basic utilities and rent. We would need 40 monthly members to be self-sustaining, and currently we have 8. The online excitement and interest has not generated the cash flow needed to keep the space running. I was hopeful that we would trend in the right direction, but that has not happened.

Isn't there grant money or other free money available?

No, there is not. Most grants are matching grants and do not cover operational costs. There is not an operational grant available for application until September, and we do not have the necessary funds to stay open that long. Even if we did, grants are not a guarantee.

But my buddy/pal/rando on the internet/first cousin once removed said that there is free money from the City/County/State...

No, there is not. Said person, if they are real, does not understand how the real-world works. The cold hard facts are that there is simply not enough paying community interest to keep the space going, and any grant organization will not donate money to a space that lacks community support.

What happens to all the stuff in the space?

We will list all Maker Space items for sale starting 7 May. The proceeds will go to pay creditors, reimburse annual memberships and assist in closing the space and non-profit organization as we liquidate everything.

How can I help?

We will need some help in June to clean out the space so that it is ready for other renters. Please email us if you are interested.

I saw a post recently asking about 3D Printing.
- We absolutely DO have a 3D printer, and we love printing things for our community!
- We charge 4 cents per gram for PLA printing. Most prints are 100 grams or less, so they cost less than a Runza.

3D Printing makes a great addition to any project. You can see the ammo boxes one member was able to fit into a pistol box.
