Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Spencer Leak Jr., a true pillar of the Chicago community. His impact reached far beyond his profession. He was a beacon of light, service, and compassion to so many.

The Ezekiel Taylor Scholarship Foundation sends our deepest condolences to the Leak family and loved ones. May God mend your broken hearts and grant you peace during this difficult time. May his legacy forever live on through the countless lives he touched and the example he set for our community.

One of our very first EZ Taylor scholars, Eric Wilson, officially walked across the stage and earned his diploma! 🙌🏾👏🏾

Watching Eric reach this milestone is a reminder of why this work matters. Through every challenge, every setback, and every victory, he kept going. His resilience, determination, and perseverance brought him to this moment, and we could not be more proud.

What makes today even more meaningful is that Eric crossed the finish line on a date that already carried deep significance for his family. A moment filled with emotion, reflection, and triumph. ❤️

🌟 Rising Star Leadership Award 🌟

Congratulations to Matthew Swalek on being recognized as a Rising Star Leader! A proud Pullman native and UIC alum, Matthew is doing powerful work as Director of Community Healing in the Mayor’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice, leading efforts that support equity and healing across Chicago.

Even more special: Matthew is a former EZ Taylor Foundation recipient 💛

And the full-circle moment: his mentor, Jamil Simmons, supported him during his time in our program (2017–2021) and is STILL in his corner today, showing up and pouring into his growth. That’s real mentorship. That’s real impact. 👏🏾

We love seeing our scholars step into leadership and continue to rise. This is what it’s all about.
