We are no longer surprised by the comments on our social media accounts from known conservative trolls or even by the more thoughtful letters to the editor from a variety of people, for example, from former conservative lawmaker Scott McInnis, in response to our statements and advocacy to hold the Roaring Fork School District and Glenwood Springs High School accountable after they violated their public commitments to our community. I am sure Mr. McInnis is opposed to our values as organizations. According to ontheissues.org, which tracks voting records, Mr. McInnis has received a 100% rating by the conservative Federation for American Immigration Reform, indicating an anti-immigration voting record; a 15% rating by the League of Conservation Voters, indicating anti-environment votes; a rating of 18% by the National Education Association, indicating anti-public education votes; and a 7% rating by the ACLU, indicating an anti-civil rights voting record. Again, we are not surprised.

HB-1237, Inclusive Language Emergency Situations, passed through the House State, Civic, Military, & Veterans Affairs Committee on Monday with an 8-1 vote. The bipartisan bill requires emergency management officials to determine the areas of the state that need to provide emergency alerts in Spanish and provide live interpretation during a 911 call.

Voces Unidas pide al director de GSHS, Paul Freeman, que responda a los problemas de cultura escolar identificados por los estudiantes en esta noticia. Esta no es la primera vez que escuchamos sobre este tipo de problemas en GSHS. Voces Unidas calls on GSHS Principal Paul Freeman to answer to the school culture issues identified by students in this news story. This is not the first time that we have heard about these type issues at GSHS. We have been concerned about GSHS given the numerous students, parents and graduates who have shared negative stories with us about their experiences at the school over the years.

Latino students are shaken, and the school district apologetic after a career expo at Glenwood Springs High School included a table with agents from Border Patrol, an agency under U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

We are aware that Glenwood Springs High School today hosted the US Border Patrol during a career expo. We are making inquiries to determine how to proceed. We know these events can cause stress and are traumatic for an immigrant community.
