The deadline for placing your sponsorship for a loved one for the Hometown Hero program is nearing. If you would like to honor a loved one (living or passed) who is or was in the armed forces or as a first responder or law enforcement, contact us soon and we’ll be happy to help. Contact Sallie at the Senior Center or Bert at Waco Oil & Gas.
The 2026 Banner Display will be placed by Memorial Day. It’s a very impressive and moving to behold.

We are set up today at the Recreation Center in Shawnee Hall at the annual Christmas In The Glen craft show. Come out and check out all the beautiful and unique products and treasures. There’s also a raffle and 50/50 that supports the event and gives you a chance to win one of many crafts and products. Stop by our table to learn about our Hometown Heroes program and how you can participate by sponsoring a Veteran or First Responder. You can also buy a Lions Club broom. They are high quality and made in the USA by the blind and eye-sight impaired, so those proceeds not only benefit the Lions Club’s mission in our community, but furthermore supports the livelihood of those who manufacture those brooms. We’ll be here until the show closes down at 4:00. Or, contact us outside of that timeframe and one of us will gladly make arrangements to get a broom delivered to you in the coming days.

The Glenville Lions Club is continuing to accept sponsorship orders for the Hometown Heroes Banner program for the upcoming 2026 display season. This is a great way to honor and pay tribute to a Veteran or First Responder loved one. While our current banners will be taken down in a few days for the winter season, we are already anticipating adding more banners to the display starting next Memorial Day. See attached flyer or application form for more information and pricing. Application forms are available at various businesses and establishments, or contact Sallie Mathess at the Gilmer County Senior Center to start the process. Or, feel free to contact Eric Squires or Bert Jedamski for any additional questions or assistance. Orders are being accepted until February 27.
