Cedar City IHC - Repost from

The 26’ fire season has officially started for CCIHC. Our first dispatch of the year called the crew to the Wild Horse Fire near Leamington, UT.
It wasn’t long after that the crew assisted with a local IA - the Christy Lane. The crew was then sent to Oakley, ID for the Summit Creek where we spent 14 days & are currently en route home for some well deserved R&R.

Pic 2 : Local assist on the Christy lane, working the crew well into the evening.

Pic 3: Picturesque commutes to work through meadows while assigned to the Summit Creek.

Pic 4: Active Fire behavior while burning sections of the Summit Creek Fire.

Pic 5: With the 26’ season starting a little slower than usual the crew has had plenty of time for training and projects. This picture shows two of our seniors milling pine into usable lumber for various projects around our cache.

Cherokee IHC - Repost from

The last two rolls have taken the crew across South Georgia and Northern Florida, assisting on the Highway 82, Shell, and 340 Fires.

Between firing operations, line construction, snagging, suppression work, and mop up, we’ve stayed busy this spring. Along the way, we have shared the woods with plenty of ticks, snakes, alligators, and even a few dogs!

As June rolls around, we’re taking our annual shutdown to give the crew a well-earned reset before returning in July and heading west for the 2026 Western Fire Season.

We’re proud of the work accomplished so far and looking forward to what the rest of the season has in store.

Wyoming IHC - Repost from

The crew is currently bouncing between fires out in eastern Wyoming. It’s a little bit of a slow start to the season but it’s a great crew this year. Last year was a solid group and we were fortunate to have all but one return this year so we’re looking forward to a good year with everyone.

Salmon River IHC - Repost from

This post is for you, Steve!

The 2026 season is here and Salmon River’s on the board.

After the crew finishes grinding through critical 80, we’ve got a tradition of looking back at what makes a hotshot a hotshot: diligence, hard work, a sense of humbleness… a solid type of person that sticks to their convictions, always takes the hard right, and just never stops doing or moving. Never quits. Takes pride in what they do. Mentally strong and reliable. Omnipresent.

Steven Thara is that. It’s why he was named Salmon River Hotshot of the Year 2025.

Steve came to us in 2022, already possessing all those traits. We just added some hotshot to him. Straight shooter and to the point, with a great laugh and tells it how it is. We call him ‘Safety Steve’ because he was way too good at pointing out the obvious when others seemed to miss it entirely (safety wise or not), explaining the truth with a sort of stoic chuckle no one’s ever going to forget… A true sounding board for the guys whenever there was a question of what to do or how to be. Also a badass wrestler that nobody could imagine messing with.

He moved on this season to a different phase of life, leaving some pretty big shoes to fill. Congratulations Steve you earned this. Wishing you the best while not so secretly hoping you wander back to us! 🎣 🔥 In the mean time, good luck with the next horizon and hope to see you soon, Brotha. 🤙

Midewin IHC - Brandon and his family are my friends, and they recently experienced a devastating house fire. In a matter of moments, their home was destroyed, and they lost everything—including their beloved dogs. Brandon, Janessa, and their three young girls are now facing the unimaginable challenge of starting over with nothing. The loss has been overwhelming, and they are struggling to find stability and comfort in the aftermath.

The crew has completed our second roll. We started on the Deadwood fire and completed the assignment helping with RX on the Boise National Forest.

Wyoming IHC - Another critical 80 come and gone. If you’re unfamiliar, critical 80 training refers to the 80 hours of refresher training we put the crew through each year. We change it up every year but the theme of physically difficult with an emphasis on team building remains the same.
The first few clips are from our day 1, where we do a crew hike, followed by a line dig, plus the uphill run and shelter deployment.
An unusual thing we do is a pool day. Hotshots are mostly land dwellers so taking everyone out of their comfort zone and doing some really taxing pool workouts, team building and stress challenges puts everyone on a mostly level playing field.
The last clip is from what we call the 1967 experience. It’s supposed to sort of resemble how the crew operated before all of our fancy, modern day gadgetry as well as be a leadership challenge for our younger perm staff. The scenario is only run for a little over an hour, and there’s a crewboss designated as well as a squadleader. They have one radio between them and they’re arriving at an active emerging incident with Pike IR(hotshot crews were IR or interregional crews back then) already engaged. Normally the supt plays the role of a sector boss and a captain plays the Pike IR crewboss. Our challenge is to attempt to spread the crew out and hinder their communications. It’s meant to be a quick tempo and stressful to give them practice staying focused on prioritizing objectives.
There’s a lot more jammed into the 80 hour before we go available, but that’s a little sample of some of what we do.

Redding IHC - Repost from

Crew is back from their prepo assignment on the Gila. Didn’t pick up any fires but lots of pt and some solid projects that allowed us the opportunity to get the crew some trigger time and training while we waited for something to happen.

And of course a friendly whiteball crew cohesion and team building exercise with 😉🏐

Another solid time@in the southwest, appreciate the hospitality!

Family Day 2026…

Before the season begins and the miles add up, we gather for one of the most meaningful days, Family Day. Before we hit the road, we take time to come together with the people who make this work possible, our families, our loved ones. It’s a Day filled with food, laughter, and connection but more importantly it’s a reminder of why we do what we do. To all the families thank you for your sacrifices your patience and your endless support.

❤️
