The Montgomery County Humane Society is planning to transform Aspin Hill Memorial Park into a campus dedicated to animal welfare, including the MCHS headquarters, animal adoption, and education.

Located at 13630 Georgia Avenue, Aspen Hill Memorial Park is a pet cemetery established in 1920. In 2007, the Park was gifted to the Montgomery County Humane Society to promote animal welfare and humane education.

The plans add several buildings, associated parking while preserving the bulk of the property. The site is currently open to the public and will remain so. By adding paths, the gravesite areas will be made more accessible. The existing home on the site will remain and will be used for offices.

Stoneybrook Local Park will have a new 10,000-square-foot skate park as part of the overall park renovation. Planning is set to begin in 2026, and the skate park is funded through a bond bill from the State of Maryland. Montgomery Parks is asking the community for input as to what other renovations and improvements should be made to the park.

Stoneybrook Local Park is located at 4105 Havard St, just south of the Matthew Henson Train and just west of Connecticut Avenue.

The park currently features a playground, a park activity building, a soccer field, a softball field overlay, basketball courts, and lighted tennis courts. In spring 2025, the soccer field was renovated and relocated to make space for upcoming park improvements.

The online survey to share your thoughts and ideas is linked below. The comment period is open until November 28, 2025.

Montgomery Parks has announced that “Rooted and Radiant” is the winning mural for the park activity building at Glenmont Local Park.

Four artists were shortlisted to develop site-specific designs, with the final selection made by the community through an open voting process. The contest generated over 2,500 votes. The artist will begin work on the mural in mid-October, and it will be unveiled in early November.

Red Swan, a Baltimore-based mural studio run by artists Hanna Moran and Lindy Swan, created the mural to celebrate Glenmont’s diversity by bringing together plants and animals from Maryland and the Latin American countries most represented in the community—El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.

The new public art mural will transform the south facade of the Glenmont Local Park Activity Building—located at 3201 Randolph Road.

Built in 1954 and renovated in 2018, the mid-century modern structure is one of 19 park activity buildings in the Montgomery Parks system, serving as a popular hub for community events.
