In Memory of Past District Governor Chris Lyman
The Rotary Club of Glendora has received the sad news from Todd Lyman that his father, our friend and fellow Rotarian Chris Lyman, has passed away.
Chris joined the Rotary Club of Glendora in December 1974 and devoted more than five decades of service to Rotary and the community he loved. His leadership, vision, and enthusiasm helped shape our club into what it is today.
Chris served as President of the Rotary Club of Glendora in 1989–1990, a year marked by exceptional achievement. The club earned so many district awards during his presidency that then-District Governor Tim Siu encouraged him to pursue district leadership. Chris was subsequently selected to serve as District Governor of Rotary District 5300 in 1991–1992, extending his impact across the entire district.
One of Chris's most enduring contributions to Glendora was his leadership in the effort to rebuild the aging Scout Hut at Finkbiner Park. With the City of Glendora committing $50,000 to the project, Chris enthusiastically rallied club members and community supporters to raise an additional $80,000, bringing the total project budget to $130,000. Thanks to the expertise of fellow Rotarian Keith Van Vliet, the building was completed $40,000 under budget. Those remaining funds were then directed toward additional projects benefiting local youth, multiplying the impact of the original effort.
When we reflect on the foundation of service, leadership, and community involvement that the Rotary Club of Glendora enjoys today, Chris is one of the giants whose shoulders we stand upon. His example continues to inspire generations of Rotarians who followed him.
