Take a picture, it’ll last longer!

No, really! Photography has played a vital role in the history of national parks. Early photographers captured stunning images to highlight the need to protect these unique landscapes. Their work allowed people to witness the beauty and significance of these areas, even from afar. Today, both professional and amateur photographers travel globally to document the parks’ scenic and historic vistas. Many parks offer photography classes to enhance these experiences.

Building a Better Trail Future in Cody: STC Hosts Sustainable OHV Trail building with National Experts

This past weekend, the Cody-based Shoshone Trails Coalition (STC) partnered with Park County Pedalers to bring national-level trail expertise to our local recreation community. On July 26th and 27th, Jason Wells of Sasquatch Trails, representing the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC), visited Cody to lead a hands-on workshop focused on sustainable trail building for safe and responsible off-highway vehicle (OHV) use.

The training combined classroom sessions with in-the-field application, giving participants the tools and knowledge to build shared-use trails that minimize environmental impact while maximizing enjoyment and safety. Over the course of the weekend, participants not only learned trail design principles but also put those skills into practice—contributing to new shared-use trail segments in the Outlaw Trail System.

Belive it or not, but BLM recreation staff found a still-smoking campfire at one of YOUR recreation areas on Public Land.

The campers who made it were long gone. They also left their trash for someone else to pick up.

Never leave your fire unattended, and drown it cold before leaving. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

Short Pines OHV clean up day! Accomplished!

Thanks everyone for the help on cleanup today. I took 420 lbs (don’t laugh 🤭) to the dump, and Shayn Mitchell’s friend took some more.

We are glad to see the total weight of garbage less. Much of our time was picking up trash not couches. A real problem is nails from pallets in the burn piles. The little parking area at the top of the hill on the east side of the gravel road was my project after lunch, lots of nails and a pallet. Clearly hasn’t had garbage picked up for a while also. I know other folks picked up nails too .

Traci and Kevin from CMA had water, coffee, bfast burritos, and tacos in a bowl. Thanks.

It was great to see all the people out using the area. Everyone was willing to take some garbage bags out on the trail. Some folks adopted some areas to pickup.

We have a great area out here and it’s a lot of fun to ride out here. Just need to remember to pick up trash and carry it out with you.

Thanks Everyone. David Wedel. FoSp.
