Student of the Month and School of the Month for May

Kiwanis Club of Glendale along with GESD recognizes Bryan Munoz for the Student of the Month Award. He is an 7th grade student from Discovery Elementary School.

Bryan is a joyful and enthusiastic student who brings a positive attitude to every class he attends. He consistently works to create a fun and welcoming environment for both students and staff. Bryan is eager to volunteer at school events, including activities such as the students vs. teachers basketball game, and he takes pride in being an active member of our school community.

In the classroom, Bryan is kind, responsible, and supportive of his peers. He willingly helps classmates who are struggling by offering encouragement and sharing different perspectives to support their learning. Bryan also shows strong initiative and responsibility when given assignments or tasks, completing them with care and a positive mindset. He builds meaningful connections with teachers, often finding common ground to engage in respectful conversations and bring positivity to those around him.

Bryan’s kindness, leadership, and school spirit make him a wonderful role model and a deserving candidate for this recognition.

School of the Month

We proudly recognize Desert Spirit School for receiving the Kiwanis Inspiring School Award this month in honor of their unwavering commitment to students with diverse needs and their families.

Desert Spirit has worked hard to cultivate their signature program of Civic Leadership and Innovative Learning. One way they have molded these two ideas together is with their community garden. With the help of the maintenance department and Glendale Kiwanis, Desert Spirit had some successful planting seasons this year where they produced carrots, cilantro and broccoli.

Their next phase is to utilize their outdoor classroom space in the garden and what the composting process might look like. This hands-on, real-world experience for students and staff has been highly valued and successful. Congratulations Desert Spirit School.

A Beautiful Morning at Deer Valley Airport!

On March 28th, our Kiwanians volunteered at an event hosted by Above and Beyond USA, who welcomed 75 special needs children for unforgettable flights around the Valley. For many of these young participants, getting the chance to take control of the plane mid-flight was a tremendous confidence boost and a memory they’ll carry for years.

The Kiwanis Club of Glendale was proud to support the day by serving breakfast to the participants and their families as well as the dedicated volunteers and pilots who showed up bright and early to make this experience possible.

A special shout out to Kiwanians Patrick Kiser, Denise Padias and Mike Beck who set up the food and ensured everything ran smoothly. A wonderful event all around, uplifting, meaningful, and a perfect example of what happens when our community comes together to make a difference in a life of a child.

On April 15th, Above and Beyond joined our Kiwanis meeting to present a special poster signed by the children who participated in the event. We were proud to receive such a heartfelt reminder of the joy the ride brought to the kids.

On March 4th, we were honored to welcome Jenny Beasley, Director of the Heart for the City Community Garden, as our guest speaker.

Jenny shared how the Community Garden is far more than a place to grow food, it’s a vibrant gathering space where people from many cultures come together, build friendships, and share new foods and traditions.

The garden is also a key part of Heart for the City’s mission to support at‑risk youth. Through hands‑on learning, kids discover how to grow healthy, nutritious food while developing teamwork, responsibility, and confidence.
