Dear EAA Chapter 538 and neighboring EAA Chapter Pilots and Ground crew volunteers,

We are hosting our next Young Eagles Rally on October 24, 2026 from 8 am to 12 pm at Glendale Regional Airport/KGEU. This is our first of four scheduled rallies and local interest has been fantastic, and we have a wait list of eager kids ready to experience the magic of flight!

🚨 VOLUNTEER PILOTS NEEDED! 🚨

Please consider flying a couple of circuits with these future aviators. To ensure every child gets a seat, we urgently need volunteer pilots to help us split the flight load.

Pilot Checklist for Participation:
• Active EAA National Membership.
• Valid Airman’s Certificate (Sport Pilot or higher) and 90-day passenger currency.
• Current flight review and medical/BasicMed (if applicable).
• Aircraft passenger liability insurance (minimum $100,000 per seat).
• Passed the EAA Youth Protection Policy background check and brief online training. (This may take up to 10 days to validate once submitted so please have this done and current before the event.)

Ground volunteers will handle registration, parental waivers, and safety escorts on the ramp, so you can focus entirely on your pre-flight briefings and flying.

GOOD NEWS from Aviation Safety Advisory Group (ASAG) regarding the tethered balloon between Glendale and Deer Valley.

UPDATE:
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) staff have been coordinating with the appropriate FAA offices in support of this deployment and have an approved COA (Certificate of Authorization aka waiver). However, they are delaying the June tethered balloon operations as they are reviewing the flight safety plans again with the local FAA Safety Team. When they have a new start date, they will notify the local flight community with a NOTAM seven days prior to start along with other local notifications.

Heads up! This will be NOTAMed, but raising awareness here. Starting June 1st and continuing periodically through the monsoon season, two tethered research balloons (24ft in diameter) will launch up to 4,200 feet AGL. The site is SW of the KDVT delta, outside KDVT and KGEU’s deltas and under the Bravo shelf.
