“The origin of Thanksgiving”
In America we celebrate Thanksgiving day in the month of November.
1)Thanksgiving is a “Special Day.”
In 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a National Holiday. Every year we celebrate a day of Thanksgiving. We gather together with family members, relatives, friends, and we have a turkey, ham and the pumpkin pie and we celebrate this day of Thanksgiving.
In Deuteronomy 16:15 it says,”Seven days, you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce, and all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.”
So as we can see the Thanksgiving was established by God, to the Israel people, not by the American people, and it is a Biblical Holiday.
Now, the question is,”Do you have a life of Thanksgiving or a day of Thanksgiving?”Thanksgiving is not a matter of your wallet, but of your heart. A thankful heart is a joy-filled heart. We don’t need Thanksgiving, but Thanksliving.
The first Thanksgiving in the Bible was celebrated seven days. Today, Thanksgiving is celebrated just one day. Then, they had less, but we have more today. They were thanking more with less, we thank less with more.
2) Thanksgiving is also a “Duty” according to the Scripture, in Psalm 100:4 “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good ; His mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations. Verse 2” Serve the Lord with gladness ; Come before His presence with singing.”
3) Thanksgiving is also a “Decision. “Children are not born with the spirit of gratitude. We must practice to be thankful.
4) Thanksgiving is a “Delight. “Thanksgiving is one of those delightful things we learn in life. To be thankful is very healthy for you. It is one of those activities that create emotional health. It has a cleansing power to it. It has a healing power. Learn to be thankful to the Lord.
1)When ? Always.
2)To whom ? To God .
3)For what ? For ALL THINGS.
4)And how ? In the name of Jesus.
Ephesians 5:20” Give thanks always for all things to God, the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. “
1Thessalonians 5:18 “ In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. “
So the Bible is teaching us to give thanks “IN”all things, but also to give thanks “FOR” all things.
If you want to know ,and to do ,and to be, in the will of God start giving thanks “In” and “For” all things.”
And a thankful person can sing and rejoice always.
