Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County Neighborhood Legal Services is a steadfast advocate for individuals, families and communities throughout Los Angeles County.

Neighborhood Legal Services works to combat the effects of poverty and create lasting improvements in the lives of individuals and families throughout Los Angeles County. Each year NLSLA provides free assistance to more than 80,000 individuals and families through innovative projects that expand access to justice and address the most critical needs of Los Angeles’ poverty communities. Founded in 1

965 as part of the nation’s War on Poverty, NLSLA is now one of the largest and most prominent public interest law offices in California. NLSLA attorneys, based in offices, courthouses and clinics throughout Los Angeles County, specialize in areas of the law that disproportionately impact the poor, including housing, public benefits, healthcare, immigration, family law, and workers’ rights. Through a combination of direct representation, policy advocacy and impact litigation, NLSLA attorneys work to reduce the effects of poverty in Los Angeles’ low-income communities, support the development of opportunities for individuals and families to move themselves out of poverty, and protect and enforce the legal rights of poor people by ensuring access to our justice system.

NLSLA is grateful for support from Cedars-Sinai, which will help us bolster one of our public benefits projects, the BAILA Network (https://www.bailanetwork.org/). This funding comes at a time of tectonic changes to Medi-Cal and CalFresh that collectively threaten the health and food security of millions of Angelenos. With the help of Cedars-Sinai, we will continue at the frontlines of providing the essential legal services that support the wellbeing of LA County's communities.
