ANCA-WR delegation stood in the halls of California's State Capitol to witness a historic milestone: the reestablishment of the California State Assembly's Select Committee on California and Armenia Mutual Trade, Art and Cultural Exchange.

With over one million Armenian Americans calling California home, this committee gives our community an institutional voice in shaping policy that matters: trade and economic partnership, education and cultural exchange, and principled advocacy for Armenian rights and dignity.

On Assyrian Martyrs' Day, the ANCA-WR Region joins the Assyrian people in honoring those killed at Simele on August 7, 1933, and all Assyrian martyrs before and since.

Hundreds of unarmed Assyrians were killed at Simele and in the surrounding villages by Iraqi forces. Most had been resettled there as survivors of the Assyrian Genocide, having been promised safety in a country that failed to provide it. The Assyrian Genocide and the Armenian Genocide were carried out by the same empire against neighboring peoples, and both remain denied. Our communities have pursued recognition and justice alongside one another for more than a century.

The ANCA-WR stands with the Assyrian community in Southern California and around the world.

Lenna Hovanessian joined ANCA interns for an engaging conversation on public service, resilience, and making an impact through advocacy.

The visit also gave interns a chance to step into the campaign world by creating and presenting mock pitches, while receiving thoughtful feedback from Lenna.

It was a meaningful opportunity to build confidence, sharpen their ideas, and reflect on the role young Armenian-Americans can play in shaping their communities.

ANCA interns visited Asbarez and Interns spoke with Editor-in-Chief Ara Khatchatourian about the role of journalism in advocacy, the importance of Armenian representation in the media and the power of writing to educate the public and bring attention to issues affecting our community. The visit left them with a deeper understanding of impactful storytelling and a greater drive to continue using their voices for justice.

ANCA-WR Summer Interns had the opportunity to meet with Assemblymember Assemblymember Nick Schultz, gaining a firsthand look at how meaningful change is achieved through public service and advocacy.

Through the discussion, interns gained a deeper understanding of the legislative process while highlighting the importance of civic engagement and the next generation’s role in advancing Armenian American advocacy.
