Open Wounds 1915

Thank you for giving us a few moments of your time. On April 1, 2014, Pentagon Records started an ever growing movement to help build awareness about the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The movement is called “Open Wounds 1915”, triggered by the song Open Wounds by Armenian-American hip hop artist R-Mean. He conveys a message of social injustice and the pain of a people whose wounds are still open from

the atrocities committed by the Ottoman Empire, and their refusal to take responsibility.

Listeners are instantly captivated by the song’s powerful, poetic, and deeply penetrating lyrics, capturing the despair, sadness and raw emotion of the plight of the Armenian people. Written with the intent that educating people about the past is the most powerful catalyst in preventing other future injustices, we have created t-shirts which are aesthetically pleasing to wear any day of the year, provoking random people to ask what the shirt represents. To insure we continue to increase awareness, with every purchase the individual gets a letter with a brief explanation of the issue and instructions to keep spreading the word about the cause using social media and word of mouth. Realizing that the voice of the people begins with the youth, we introduce them to a positive role model with a cause. R-Mean is not your “stereotypical” hip-hop artist. He has graduated from UCLA with a bachelor in physiological science, continuing his education at Loma Linda University, obtaining his Pharm D. Proving you can follow your dreams, as well as educating yourself.
