Gurgen’s journey to the World Championships is a story of perseverance and a new mission.

A Veteran of Armenia’s 44-day war, Gurgen has carried his determination beyond military service and into competitive sport.

Armwrestling has provided another arena in which to challenge himself, build strength, and proudly represent Armenia.

Now, Gurgen has the opportunity to take that journey to one of the biggest stages in the sport, the World Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championships in New Delhi.

Behind every athlete who reaches an international competition is a community that helped make the journey possible.

MEET THE ATHLETE: Gev Hambarcumyan 🇦🇲

A Veteran of the 44-day war, he has transformed the strength and determination forged through his experiences into excellence in competitive sport.

Today, Gevork is a multiple-time World and European Para-armwrestling Champion and the 2026 European Champion.

His accomplishments tell only part of the story. Behind every medal are countless hours of training, discipline, recovery, and the decision to continue moving forward.

In New Delhi, Gevork will have another opportunity to stand among the world’s best and represent Armenia on the international stage.

MEET THE ATHLETE: Saq Harutyunyan 🇦🇲

Sargis knows what it means to compete under pressure and rise to the occasion.

A Veteran of the 44-day war, Sargis has gone on to establish himself among the elite competitors in international para-armwrestling.

He is a multiple-time World and European Para-armwrestling Champion and enters this campaign as the 2026 European Champion.

Every championship represents years of work that most people never see: training sessions, physical preparation, setbacks, sacrifices, and relentless pursuit of improvement.

In October, Sargis will have the opportunity to test himself against the world’s best once again.

MEET THE ATHLETE: Shahen Babayan 🇦🇲

From service to sport, Shahen continues to represent Armenia with courage and pride.

A Veteran of the 44-day war and recipient of Armenia’s Medal of Courage, Shahen has continued his journey of service and representation through para-armwrestling.

He is a multiple-time World and European Para-armwrestling Champion and earned the title of 2026 European Vice-Champion.

Today, the same determination that carried him through combat drives his pursuit of excellence in sport.

This October, Shahen has the opportunity to represent Armenia at the 28th World Para Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi and compete against elite athletes from around the world.

Supporting Shahen means supporting a Veteran, a champion, and an Armenian athlete who continues to carry his country with pride wherever he competes.

MEET THE ATHLETE: SARGIS STEPANYAN 🇦🇲

For Sargis, advancing adaptive sport in Armenia has never been only about winning medals, it has been about creating opportunities for others.

As the Founding President of the RA Federation of Sports for the Disabled, Sargis has helped build a path for athletes with disabilities to compete, grow, and represent Armenia through sport.

He has also led by example on the international stage, becoming a multiple-time World and European Para-armwrestling Champion.

His journey represents leadership, perseverance, and the power of sport to create purpose and possibility.

This fall, Sargis is preparing to once again represent Armenia at the 28th World Para Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi, India.

Five Armenian Veterans. One world stage. One mission: represent Armenia with strength, resilience, and pride.

Veterans of Armenia is launching a $25,000 fundraising campaign to help send five Veteran athletes, their trainer, and a support team member to New Delhi, India, for the 47th World Armwrestling Championship and 28th World Para Armwrestling Championship, taking place October 26–November 7, 2026.

This is one of the premier armwrestling competitions in the world, bringing together athletes, officials, and supporters from more than 60 countries.

Our five athletes are not simply traveling to participate. They are current and former World and European champions, decorated Veterans, and men who have found renewed purpose through sport. Several defended Armenia during the 44-day war. Today, they continue representing our country in a different arena, competing against the best athletes in the world while proudly carrying the Armenian flag.

For these Veterans, armwrestling is more than competition. It is discipline, community, recovery, purpose, and an opportunity to show what is possible after service and sacrifice.

But getting them to the world stage requires our support.

Our $25,000 fundraising goal will help cover flights, lodging, meals, tournament expenses, training gear, and miscellaneous costs necessary to send the athletes and their support team to New Delhi.

We are seeking five generous sponsors willing to contribute $5,000 each, one sponsor for each Veteran athlete.

Sponsors will have opportunities for recognition throughout the campaign, including approved logo placement on athlete apparel and training gear outside of official matches, social media recognition, photos and videos, and personalized messages from the athletes.

This is an opportunity to do more than sponsor a competition.

Sponsor a Veteran. Sponsor a champion. Sponsor an Armenian hero’s journey to represent our country on the world stage.

Designed to simulate real-world living, the center provides a space where Veterans can rebuild everyday skills, regain independence, and continue their rehabilitation with dignity and confidence. This is what your support makes possible, changing lives one day at a time.

Together, we’re helping our heroes move forward.

Recovery happens one lap at a time, and we’re honored to be part of it. Every week, more Veterans are finding strength, confidence, and camaraderie through our Swim Project. Whether it’s swim therapy or adaptive water polo, the water has become a place to rebuild, recover, and move forward together.

Thanks to the unwavering support of our community and donors, the Swim Project continues to grow, reaching more Veterans and changing more lives with every session.
