Hi! My name is Isabela Karels and I am from Norwood Young America, MN. I grew up working on my familyโs farm and that is where my passion for the dairy and cattle industry really started. Iโve been around cattle my whole life, from helping with daily chores to raising and showing cattle, and thatโs what got me interested in herd management, genetics, and the overall operation side of things. Iโm currently a third year Dairy Production student at South Dakota State University, where Iโve been able to build on that background through classes and hands on experiences focused on things like reproduction, milk quality, and herd health. Iโve also stayed involved in the industry through livestock judging and leadership roles. Iโve had the opportunity to work as an undergraduate research assistant at SkyView Dairy Farm, where I helped with calf care and research on colostrum management and calf health. I also worked with the University of Minnesota Extension as an intern, where I got experience in ag outreach, working with producers, and creating educational content. Iโm really excited to be working with the Minnesota Holstein Association this summer and to get more involved with the dairy industry here at home. Long term, I plan to continue growing my familyโs operation and stay connected to the industry that Iโve always been passionate about.
