Clean up and remove spent foliage. Transitioning colors are a highlight of autumn, consider adding to the beauty of your landscape by selecting flowers, trees, and shrubs with vibrant fall foliage color, such as orange, red, and gold. Begin to think about what bulbs to plant for a great display next spring.

The summer growing season is coming to a close with a gradual fading of flowers and crops. Harvest fruit & vegetable gardens frequently to promote more fruit. Now is the time to plant fall crops. Watch for disease or insect problems. Inspect the garden taking note of which plants need dividing.

As August progresses, continue general garden maintenance. Deadhead spent flowers as they fade and water containers regularly. Consider leaving seed pods up for fall and winter interest which will also have the added benefit of providing food and habitat for local animals.

Don't worry about the snow covering emerging spring bulbs; snow acts as an insulator and when it melts, it will provide much needed water! Warmer days and spring blooms are just around the corner!
