I am really sad that someone stole our Dinosaur from the Somervell Genealogy Library . This was not paid for by the county. It was paid for by individuals who worked hard to pay for it so people could find our Genealogy Library! We have filed charges!!! It is a Felony!!! If your kid took it as a prank I advise you to get it returned!!! It is so sad we can’t have anything nice without someone stealing it!!!!

The back to back droughts in 2022-2023 exposed innumerable dinosaur tracks in the Paluxy River in Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose,TX, such as this acrocanthosaurus track.

This actual dinosaur trackway was removed by Dr. Roland T. Bird in 1940 from the Paluxy River in what is now Dinosaur Valley State Park. It has been on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City since 1954.

The first Somervell County Courthouse finished in 1885 burned due to possible arson in 1893. The current courthouse built in 1893 by architect John Cormack features elements of Romanesque Revival and General Grant architectural style. It has been a Texas Historic Landmark since 1963 and on the National Register listing since 1979.

Had the pleasure of meeting the great-granddaughter of A.P. Humphrey
(Francesca Humphrey Nor)the man who built the saloon in 1896 on the historic square. She is pictured with the building behind her 😊

Traces of Texas reader Debby Everett kindly sent in this lovely circa 1910 photo, taken on the Paluxy River near Glen Rose and showing the Sherrod family traveling home to Johnsville from Glen Rose. Texas. They probably stopped for a picnic.

Thank you, Debby. Super duper!
