Today, we honor Juneteenth. ❤️💛💚🖤
On June 19, 1865, the news of freedom finally reached enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth reminds us that freedom was delayed, resisted, and hard-won, and that the work of justice continues.
At Spicebush, this day invites us to think about what freedom means in the life of a child.
Freedom means being seen, heard, and respected. It means learning in a classroom where your history, your family, your joy, your questions, and your whole self are welcomed. It means belonging without having to shrink. 🌱
As Montessori educators, we know that peace is not passive, inclusion is not decorative, and justice is not a one-day lesson. These values live in the books we choose, the conversations we make space for, the dignity we offer each child, and the community we keep building together.
Today, we celebrate Black freedom, Black joy, Black history, and the ongoing work of creating spaces where every child can grow free.
Happy Juneteenth. ✨
