High Adventure Canoe Trip: Skeleton Crew Edition — Day 3 🛶

After a chilly night with temps in the upper 40s, our east-facing campsite treated us to some welcome morning sun. We had a good breakfast, broke camp for the final time, and were on the water by 9:30.

What a difference a day makes! Calm water and a light breeze had us cruising. We covered the first three miles in just 1 hour and 20 minutes, made a quick stop to scout out a group campsite for a potential return trip, then finished the paddle back to the state park.

5.4 miles in 1 hour and 51 minutes of paddling—a much different experience than yesterday’s headwinds!

We loaded up the canoes, hit the camp store for some well-earned cold drinks and ice cream, and headed back to S**o.

Not the trip we originally planned, but a great adventure with a small crew and plenty of good memories. 🛶

High Adventure Canoe Trip: Skeleton Crew Edition — Day 2 🛶

Day 2 brought some gnarly headwinds that made our five-mile paddle feel a whole lot longer—and didn’t leave many opportunities to stop paddling for pictures. At times, we had to keep paddling just to keep the wind from pushing us backwards!

We used the shoreline to our advantage, staying in the lee whenever possible and powering through a few exposed crossings. A small island with an empty campsite gave us the perfect spot for a much-needed snack break and some interesting lunch choices (PB&J and Cheez-Its, anyone?) before the final push to camp.

After earning our dinner, we enjoyed hearty pasta and meatballs with freshly baked biscuits, followed by an amazing blueberry-lemon Dutch oven dessert.

We finished the night around the campfire with loons calling across the lake, then climbed out on the rocks to take in the Milky Way and a few more Perseid meteors.

A tough paddle, a great camp, and one heck of a Day 2.

High Adventure Canoe Trip: Skeleton Crew Edition 🛶

For a variety of reasons, our crew ended up at just five—three Scouts and two adults. So we pivoted to a 3-day, 2-night adventure camping at remote sites on Umbagog Lake.

Day 1 started with a two-mile paddle to our island campsite, including a quick stop on another island to wait out a passing thunderstorm. We made camp, explored the island, and enjoyed walking tacos for dinner.

We ended the evening around the campfire with a spiced apple Dutch oven dump cake, incredible stars, and even a few Perseid meteors streaking overhead.

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you have to improvise.

Troop Guides Sam and JJ are headed to the 2026 National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia!

They’re part of the 72-member Northern New England Contingent, representing Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Before arriving at the Summit, they’ll spend a full day exploring the historic Gettysburg Battlefield.

From there, they’ll spend 10 days joining more than 12,000 Scouts and Scouters from across the country for an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, leadership, and new friendships.

A special shout-out to ASM Patrick Sarto, who is already at the Jamboree serving on the EMS staff. Thank you for volunteering and helping make this incredible event possible!

We hope they have an amazing trip and can’t wait to see their photos and hear all about their adventures when they return. Safe travels, Sam and JJ! ⚜️

Another awesome Troop 310 weekend is in the books! This weekend we teamed up with our friends from Venturing Crew 3333 for a camping and canoeing adventure with our amazing hosts On the S**o Family Campground and had an awesome time enjoying the outdoors.

Saturday was all about getting on the water and building paddling skills. We spent the day canoeing 6.5 miles across Moose Pond in Denmark, Maine. After a relaxing lunch stop, the afternoon winds rolled in and gave everyone a real workout on the paddle back. It quickly became clear why proper paddle strokes matter — especially those J-strokes! The tougher conditions turned into a great lesson in teamwork, adapting to changing conditions, and perseverance as everyone worked together to keep moving forward.

Between the campfires, good food, laughs around camp, and a full day on the water, it was exactly the kind of weekend Scouting is all about.
