MML Young Men of Distinction

Each year the Education Committee of Mu Mu Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc. invites selected young men from local high schools to become a part of its Young Men of Distinction Program. The Young Men of Distinction is a pre-college, character building, self-awareness, and self-esteem program, that is designed to bring various aspects of African-American life to male students in grad

es 8th-12th. The Young Men of Distinction content includes a series of activities and seminars designed to encourage participants to strive for academic and personal excellence. Such topics include:
• College Preparation
• Career Goals
• Survival Skills
• Developing and enhancing communication skills
• Establishing values
• Co-ed workshop on human sexuality and teenage pregnancy prevention
• A Beautillion event for high school seniors. Individuals, with expertise in the various topics of discussion, will facilitate the seminars and activities held throughout the year. Mu Mu Lambda Chapter’s Education Committee embraces as it’s mission the combating of negative influences and stereotypes and seeks to formulate ways to increase the interests of African-American high school students in history, cultural traditions and academic excellence.
