Dear Neighbors,
I serve on the Nominating Committee of the Civic Betterment Committee (CBC). That means I represent you! The purpose and philosophy of CBC can be summed up by the phrase "Neighbors Nominating Neighbors". More information can be found on the attached flyer.
We are beginning to organize for the Village municipal elections that will take place next spring. If you have considered running for Village President or a position on the Village Board of Trustees or the Library Board, or if you know someone who would make an excellent candidate, will you let me know? I can describe the application and interview process and answer questions about qualifications, position descriptions, etc.
We strive to be as inclusive as possible and hope to encourage many viable candidates to come forward. If you need a gentle push, consider yourself nudged; or if you know someone who might consider running with a gentle push from you, please make the move. You can visit the Civic Betterment Party website www.civicbetterment.com to learn more about our 91-year history in Glen Ellyn (formed in 1931) and to find a fillable application. We are apolitical and in fact, we exist partly to avoid the partisan politics and high costs that afflict so many local elections.
We are gearing up for the Town Meeting this fall, at which our slate of candidates will be put before the residents of Glen Ellyn. We go dormant between election cycles, but you will begin to hear from us again now. At the Town Meeting, candidates will present their positions and be available to discuss Village issues with you. Your vote will determine the CBC final slate of candidates to go on the ballot in the spring.
This is an exciting exercise in grass roots democracy. Please consider running for office, or encourage others in the Village to do so. Let me or anyone on the Committee know if we can answer any questions about the nominating process.
