In the flood-ravaged village of Khairpur, Pakistan, 25-year-old Arebeli lived in a joint family of 12 members. Her life, once full of hope and dreams of studying needlework, was turned upside down when devastating floodwaters submerged her home and destroyed all her belongings. With her husband working on daily wages and the entire community left in despair, Arebeli faced the grim reality of not knowing where their next meal would come from. Despite being turned away by several organizations, her determination to find help for her village never wavered.
During a field assessment, the Shifa Foundation team met Arebeli and found her entire village suffering from extreme hunger and lack of resources. Our team immediately registered Arebeli and many other families in the (Feed the Needy) program to provide urgent nutritional relief. Beyond immediate food aid, we provided the villagers with essential guidance on self-sufficiency strategies and skill-building measures to help them break the cycle of dependency and recover from the disaster.
The timely intervention of the Shifa Foundation brought more than just food; it brought hope back to Khairpur. After receiving the necessary food items, Arebeli’s family saw a path forward. Inspired by the support, Arebeli became an active leader in her community, helping to coordinate aid for other flood-affected victims. Today, she stands as a symbol of resilience, proving that even after the most devastating disasters, determination and the right support can rebuild lives and restore dignity.
