College of Dupage Community Education Garden Providing fresh organic fruits and vegetables for local consumption, and educating students and resi

Our mission is to provide fresh organic fruits and vegetables for local consumption and to educate our district residents about the importance of organic agriculture for community health, food security and land stewardship. The Community Education Farm is operated by COD faculty and staff, and our food is grown by a combination of students and community volunteers of all ages. During the growing s

eason, we hold weekly sales, featuring fresh organic produce from our farm, as well as regional partner farms. Additionally, through our partnership network and with community support, we distribute produce to low-income families in DuPage County primarily via the People’s Resource Center. The Community Education Farm:
Models sustainable urban farming practices. Acts as a link across disciplines and connects classroom and service-learning to real world experience. Offers COD students, faculty, staff, and community members opportunities to work on a farm and to learn skills needed to produce food. Supplies locally and sustainably produced food of the highest quality to all members of the greater COD community, including low-income families. Serves as organic waste management for COD through on-site composting efforts including vermicomposting. Hosts workshops, lectures, and other events related to food topics. Builds networks of local growers and food purveyors to increase availability and abundance of local, organically grown produce.
