The National Park Service has released a new on-demand training series and updated guidance to help people apply the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, a key framework used to guide historic preservation projects across the country.

Many examples are drawn from the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program, though the training is broadly applicable across the field.

The series offers additional clarity on how the Standards are interpreted in practice, including considerations such as economic and technical feasibility. These resources provide preservation professionals and project teams with useful context and examples to help navigate rehabilitation projects in a range of settings.

Original wood windows are a valuable architectural detail of your home, and should be preserved in order to maintain its architectural integrity. The placement, size, materials, and profile of your windows were designed by the architect or builder as a contributing element to the total design of your home. Windows are as important to defining the style of your home as are the other architectural elements, such as the roofline, footprint and mass.

The members of Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation, a citizen's group in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, are working to control teardowns so that they can save historic, vintage, or architecturally important homes and buildings. Unfortunately this year we will not be placing the yard signs, but look forward to bringing them back for next yaar.

Each May for preservation month, Citizens For Glen Ellyn Preservation recognizes our local history! We place blue 'Preserving Glen Ellyn' signs at architecturally significant homes identified in our village resource surveys.

We do have some great news to tide you over until next year. The Village of Glen Ellyn has launched an Incentive program for Historic Homeowners. Read more about the program below.

Please share this post, and help spread the word.

Dear Historic Homeowner,

May is National Historic Preservation Month.

This is the month when Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation and the Historic Preservation Commission of Glen Ellyn have partnered to have volunteers place the blue Preserving Glen Ellyn signs in the yards of architecturally significantly homes like yours to celebrate our community’s historic architecture.

We are re-organizing our efforts this year, so will not be distributing the signs. However, we look forward to picking right back up next year to keep this wonderful tradition going! If you have any questions about the blue sign program, please contact Penn French at [email protected] or 312-925-4013.

Historically Significant Glen Ellyn Homes

May is Preservation Month. This year, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's theme is "Power of Place" for its 75th Anniversary. This national campaign encourages people to celebrate the places that are meaningful to their communities.

The Historic Preservation Commission is partnering with Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation to place signs in front of 300 homes identified as being historically significant based on age, architectural merit, and integrity. The signs help focus attention on our Village’s historical and architectural gems, which form our unique architectural character and attract new residents and visitors to Glen Ellyn.

Imagine an Indigenous Peoples cultural and environmental center in a Glen Ellyn forest preserve where there was a Potawatomie Village. Imagine what can we learn from this.
