Sonoma Mountain Preservation

Sonoma Mountain Preservation Our mission is to preserve Sonoma Mountain’s scenic, agricultural, and natural resources. Sonoma County. Published to rave reviews in March 2019.

Sonoma Mountain Preservation has been speaking for the mountain in our backyard for 28 years. With love, determination, and deep commitment, SMP volunteers advocate for open space, recreation, and scenic preservation of the mountain. We’re also part of the collaborative community shepherding the transfer of SDC’s last 700 acres to open space, and creating creek protections boundaries and access o

n the campus. We celebrate our mountain’s stunning natural and cultural riches with events, hikes, exhibits and presentations around the mountain. Where the World Begins: Sonoma Mountain in Stories and Images is a book about the whole ecology of the mountain—from creatures to creeks, geology to human story, plants to recreation. Focusing on sense of place, 140 photos and five local writers draw you into the inspiring natural treasure at heart of S. On bestseller lists for 6 months! Check out SMP’s quarterly meetings! It might not be Sonoma Mountain, but our friends at Pepperwood have a pidcast worth listening to for talk on local biodiversity and similar topics.

Did you know that Pepperwood has a podcast?

The Pepperwood Podcast is our monthly conversation series on conservation, biodiversity, and stewardship, hosted by Julianne Bradbury. Each episode asks three questions: who or what our guest works with, how that work shapes the future, and what it takes to make it happen.

In our latest episode, Julianne talks with Devyn Friedfel about our October 2025 broadcast burn, including the diverse research collaborations that examined its effects.

Stick around to the end for the Nature Sound Guess Who Game, where you can test your ears against a mystery California critter! 🌿
