June marks one of the most significant and painful chapters in modern Sikh history.

From June 1–10, 1984, a series of events unfolded in and around Sri Harmandir Sahib that forever impacted the Sikh Panth and left a lasting mark on Sikh collective memory around the world. This timeline highlights key events based on historical accounts and eyewitness testimonies, serving as an educational resource for those seeking to better understand this period in history.

As we reflect on these events, we remember the lives lost, the families affected, the destruction of invaluable historical and religious literature, and the resilience of the Sikh community in the face of adversity.

May we continue to educate ourselves, preserve our history, and ensure that future generations understand the significance of these events and their lasting impact on the Sikh Panth.

Road to Empire ✨

Members of the Sikh Youth of New York Council attended the Sikh Democrats of New York gathering on Long Island to listen, learn, and engage with respected Sikh leaders as they shared their perspectives and future vision for building a stronger political home for our community.

It was inspiring to see Sikhs from across the region come together to discuss leadership, civic engagement, community empowerment, and the opportunities we can create for future generations. Meaningful conversations like these are essential as we continue working toward greater representation and a stronger voice for our community.

We are grateful to all of the organizers, speakers, and community leaders who make these gatherings possible. Events like these play an important role in educating, connecting, and empowering our Sangat.

Sharing some highlights from last night.

It was an honor for the council members of Sikh Youth of New York to join the Vaisakhi celebrations hosted by the Sikh Officers Association at 1 Police Plaza, NYPD Headquarters, alongside respected members of the Sikh community

We were proud to be in the presence of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Swaranjit Singh Khalsa Mayor of Norwich CT, NJ State Trooper Varinder Singh, NY State Trooper Charanjot Singh Tiwana, leadership of the Sikh Officers Association Gurvinder Singh, Anmol Singh, Daler Singh, Navdeep Singh, and many honorable officers proudly representing the Sikh identity

It was a powerful night where Sikh officers stood among high ranking officials of New York City and truly showed what community, service, and identity look like

Members of Mayor Mamdani’s administration were also present along with our own Jagpreet Singh, Manveer Singh, and Jasleen Kaur

The program was well organized with strong speakers, meaningful presentations, kirtan, and gatka. The evening was beautifully put together with great hospitality and dinner to close

Sikh Youth of New York is proud of the dedication these officers have shown over the past 10 years. From a small group to now inspiring hundreds to join the force and represent Sikhi with pride

The Finance Darbar or Sikh Youth of New York came together to talk about the future with AI.

We broke down what AI really is, how it’s being used today, and most importantly… how we can use it.

This wasn’t just theory this was strategy.

We discussed:
• How AI is transforming businesses across every industry
• How to use AI to increase efficiency, cut costs, and scale faster
• How those who adapt early will dominate their markets
• How AI is creating leverage that can build more millionaires and billionaires than ever before

But beyond business, we also talked about:
• Using AI for smarter decision-making
• Staying ahead instead of reacting late
• Building systems that work for you,

The future isn’t coming… it’s already here.
The question is are you learning it, or getting left behind?

Did you know the first event of Hola Mohalla was held at a site across the Charan Ganga river, northwest of Anandpur. This location, where a fort called Holgarh was later established, is now marked by Gurdwara Holgarh Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh Ji felt the festival of Holi had lost its deeper meaning, so Maharaj infused it with a martial spirit, creating Hola Mohalla for Sikhs to demonstrate their military prowess through simulated battles, horse-riding, and weapons skills. This was a way to practice and stay ever-ready to defend their rights and faith. Tyar Bar Tyar
During these first gatherings, Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself would divide the Khalsa into two groups to practice mock battles and siege tactics. He would then review their performance and award prizes for excellence.

Hola Mohalla - The name comes from "Hola" (derived from halla, meaning military charge) and "Mohalla" (meaning an organized procession or army column). Together, it signifies "the charge of an army".

Nothing compares to celebrate Hola Mohalla among the sangat at Anandpur Sahib where for a few days you are taken back to the times when Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj himself graces the beautiful city of Anandpur Sahib, an experience everyone should have a chance to experience at least once.
We wish you all a happy Hola Mohalla.
