Our school-based Sickle Cell Awareness Program is actively engaging students across schools in Ibadan through education and interactive learning.

From real conversations to student participation, we are creating safe spaces where young people can learn about:

✨ Healthy choices and relationships
✨ Breaking myths and stigma
✨ The importance of early testing

🗣️ WEEK 17 – MYTHS & FACTS

This week, students at 📍Monatan High School, Ibadan participated in a highly impactful learning session on genotype myths and facts as part of our “Know Your Genotype, Know Your Power” campaign in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Health.

Using simple visual demonstrations and interactive student participation, our health educators explained how misinformation and common myths have affected public understanding of Sickle Cell Disease.

By actively engaging students in the session, complex genetic concepts became easier to understand. Our goal is to ensure that young people learn early how genotype compatibility can influence important life decisions in the future.

These classroom and field conversations are powerful. When students understand their genotype and the science behind it, they are better equipped to make informed choices that can help protect future generations rather than relying on myths and misconceptions.
