Glen Arbor Arts Center The Glen Arbor Art Center (GAAC) is a non-profit organization with a mission is to enrich community life through the arts.

The GAAC is a community cultural arts center serving adults, children, families, and artists. The GAAC’s mission is advanced through in-person, outside, and online programs with six exhibitions with companion programs, art classes for adults and children, dance performances, artist interviews, art history lectures, an artist-in-residence program, Plein Air Weekend, open studios, art poster competition, Creativity Q& A an online artist chronicle and 6ft apart Art series.

🧵 Make, Relax, and Connect Through Art! ❄️

Take a break from the busy holiday season and enjoy a creative afternoon at the Glen Arbor Arts Center. Our adult-only Needle Felted Winter Creature Ornaments Community Class invites you to slow down, try something new, and enjoy the simple pleasure of making by hand.

Learn needle-felting techniques as you create winter creatures like polar bears, penguins, and reindeer. Explore texture, color, and pattern while building skills you can take home and continue using long after class ends.

Your Thanksgiving table deserves something handmade!

In Embroidered Table Runners for the Thanksgiving Table, instructor Alyssa Brieanne Jordan will guide you through the process of designing and creating your own embroidered table runner.

Choose from provided templates or create a design that’s completely your own. You’ll learn how to:

🎨 Develop a seasonal color palette
✏️ Create or select a design
📄 Transfer your design from paper to fabric
🧵 Explore embroidery techniques
🍂 Combine motifs, florals, and colors into a cohesive design

We’ll also look at vintage embroidery patterns and gather inspiration from the season—all while enjoying tea, cookies, and a relaxed creative atmosphere.

🖌️🍂 Ready to Take Your Watercolor Skills to the Next Level?

Spend a weekend slowing down, looking closely, and learning to paint the incredible colors and details found in autumn leaves.

In Watercolor Skill Building: Autumn Leaf Study, instructor Dani Knoph Davis will introduce you to techniques inspired by classical botanical illustration—all in a relaxed and encouraging group setting.

You’ll learn about:
🖊️ Mark-making & drawing techniques
✒️ Using a nib pen to create character and style
🎨 Color mixing for rich, natural autumn hues
🍁 Watercolor techniques for capturing the beauty of real leaves
🔍 Observation and illustration through hands-on practice

Expect plenty of demonstrations, time to experiment, and lots of encouragement along the way. By the end, you’ll have at least two leaf studies and a stronger foundation for your watercolor and illustration practice.

🍂🎨 Capturing Autumn at Myles Kimmerly County Park!

Our Plein Air in Fall Colors Painting class with instructor Hank Feeley took creativity outdoors on a crisp fall day at Miles Kimerly Park! Surrounded by the beautiful colors, textures, and changing light of the autumn landscape, students had the opportunity to slow down, observe nature, and capture the beauty of this amazing season on canvas.

Plein air painting invites us to see familiar places in new ways, noticing the little details that make the Northern Michigan landscape unique. We love seeing our students embrace the outdoors, explore their creativity, and bring their own perspectives to the canvas!

A big thank-you to Hank Feeley for sharing his knowledge and helping our students find inspiration in the beauty of Northern Michigan. 🍁🖌️

✨ A Little Fall Magic at GAAC! 🍂🪄

Our Glen Lake LIFT middle school students welcomed the magic of autumn in a recent Fall Floral Wands class with instructor CristiEllen Zarvas of .studio out of Petoskey! With creativity, imagination, and a touch of seasonal inspiration, students created their own wands, turning simple dried materials into something wonderfully unique.

We love seeing young artists explore their creativity, experiment with new materials, and bring their ideas to life through art. Thank you to CristiEllen for sharing her creativity and helping our students make a little fall magic of their own!
