Heads up about the SNOO, parents!

Important update for SNOO Smart Sleeper users:

If you have, or are considering purchasing a SNOO Smart Sleeper, please be aware that its manufacturer, Happiest Baby, Inc., has been selling new sleep sack sizes and hospital SNOO bassinet bundles without first undergoing FDA review and obtaining FDA authorization.

The FDA strongly cautions patients, caregivers and health care providers that the X-Small and X-Large sleep sacks, and the SNOO Hospital Bundle, have not been evaluated for safety and effectiveness by the FDA and pose increased risks as described in the Warning Letter. The FDA also cautions that stains, soiling and unsanitary conditions have been reported on refurbished SNOOs distributed to customers, which may pose risk of infection. The FDA also cautions that mold has been reported on SNOO Smart Sleeper mattresses and/or mattress covers. Users should report any problems with SNOO products through the MedWatch Voluntary Reporting Form.

For our pumping parents…
These two things are not like the other.

Some of the replacement backflow protectors are sucking (and not in a good way)
I’ve had them pop apart, and have super fussy suction here in the office.

I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME.

But apparently not - I’m hearing from others it’s a wider problem.
I’m sure some knock off company made a cheaper version, and the DME providers decided to save a few bucks (but not change less I’m sure)

Spread the info to them and to your pumping friends that these cheapy BF protectors can change how much milk is pumped if they’re not working correctly!
👌🏽👌🏽ASK FOR THE OG, clear plastic versions.
Companies, be aware of this issue and stop sending these versions!
Milk supplies matter, and these parts can have a detrimental impact if it makes the pumps work more poorly..
Now you know!

I know we should probably have a larger conversation about safe sleep—
But if you’re a patient of mine, we’ve probably had the couch or recliner conversation.
Stay away from the couch or recliner or super soft “corners” for baby to fall into.
Partners do this all the time with a baby in their chest — I get it! It makes sense! Why not get in your most restful place with baby in a contact nap situation.
But research tells a different story. PLEASE share, be careful. Learn about safe sleep surfaces, Sweet Sleep from LLL, or review Dr James McKennas information, and the AAP.

Yeppppp. It’s probably that time.
All pumps have parts that can wear out.
There’s a terrific amount of work and suction moving through small pieces of silicone. Especially if you’re pumping often.
👍🏽ALWAYS CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER OF YOUR PUMP for their recommendations.

👍🏽Mostly, anything soft will need to be changed out more often. On a Spectra pump, the duck bill valves, every 6 weeks. Ish. If you exclusively pump, change these out more often. Have loads of extras on hand (they’re cheap)

👍🏽The flexible part of the backflow protectors. Every 3 months. Just get new ones. After washing a lot, they tend to get fussy and not stay together well.

👍🏽The tubing? Rarely. Unless the ends get stretched out. 🚩🚩NEVER WASH THE INTERIOR OF YOUR TUBING! 🚩🚩Don’t submerge them. Wipe them down with a baby or Clorox wipe. If water gets into the tubing, don’t turn your pump on! Just throw the tubing out. You don’t want water sucked up into the pump.

👍🏽Flanges? Don’t have to be replaced unless you need another size.
