Our 2024 Annual Report is here!
In our 2023–2024 fiscal year, Securing Safe Food delivered over 2,200 meals worth of allergen-free groceries to pantries across the U.S., partnered with 30 pantries in 9 states, and continued to advocate for inclusive, nutritious food access—especially for those with food allergies or other adverse reactions to foods.
From expanding our medical referral program at pediatric allergy clinics to diversifying our cultural food offerings and joining the 1% for the Planet network, 2023–2024 was a transformative year.
Food allergies affect over 220 million people worldwide. A mislabeled ingredient isn’t a small mistake—it can be life-threatening. That’s why reading labels, handling food safely, and strengthening traceability systems matter.
World Food Safety Day, developed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), raises awareness of the often invisible risks in what we eat—from foodborne pathogens to hidden allergens.
By introducing allergen-friendly zones in food pantries around the country, our work ensures a healthier environment for people at risk of food reactions. We aim to promote trust, transparency, and safety in every meal.

Whether eggs are out of your budget or off your plate due to allergies, SSF has found substitutes for every need! OUR MISSION:
To increase the food allergic community’s accessibility to safe food through restaurant education, ingredient lists, and allergy-friendly food pantries.
We aspire to support, advocate, and spread awareness to secure safe food for the 32 million Americans who live with a food allergy.
WHO WE ARE:
We’re a group of teens dedicated to improving the lives of those in the food allergic community. By collaborating with eateries, cafeterias, and local food pantries, we aim to reduce the challenge of finding safe food outside of the home. We hail from Connecticut to California.
OUR FOUNDER:
Rachel Brooks is a seventeen-year-old who’s gluten-free and allergic to milk, egg, peanut, and tree nuts. She’s experienced the lack of allergy protocol in restaurants firsthand, and her vision is to create a sustainable solution to increase awareness through interaction and education. She also hopes to improve the health of the low-income food allergic community by introducing top 8 allergen free options to local food pantries.
WHAT WE WILL DO:
-Educate and interact with restaurants through
-Suggest procedures for avoiding cross-contamination
-Raise funds to help willing restaurants create allergy-safe systems (i.e. color codes plates and utensils for serving the food allergic community, accessible ingredient binders with labeled allergens, redesigned menus with major allergens listed, etc.)
-Strive to introduce accessible ingredient lists for items served in cafeterias
-Distribute posters to cafeterias on keeping salad and hot bars allergy safe.
-Provide allergy-friendly options for those in need by collaborating with local food pantries
-Establish dedicated areas of food pantries that are free of the top 8 allergens
-Secure donations from allergy-friendly brands
HOW WE WILL DO IT:
We need YOUR help to raise funds to get our organization off the ground.
If 100 people donate $10, we will reach our goal of $1000 to legally incorporate our nonprofit and acquire 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Visit our GoFundMe page to give.
