πŸ’›πŸ’™ National FFA Convention: Day 3! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Glasgow FFA members visited Beasley’s Orchard in Danville, Indiana, where we had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Calvin Beasley himself! As a third-generation farmer, Calvin shared valuable insight into the history of the family farm, its operation, and how agriculture continues to evolve.

Highlights included:

🍎 Learning about the orchard’s 35 apple varieties, high-density planting systems, pruning, seasonal production, and approximately 200,000 apples harvested so far this season.

🍏 Discovering how apples are graded for wholesale markets and made into 100% apple c***r with nothing added, along with the growing demand for crisp apple varieties such as EverCrisp.

πŸ“ Exploring 15 acres of strawberries, including the U-Pick operation and different plastic mulch systems.

πŸŽƒ Learning about no-till pumpkin production, cereal rye cover crops, and growing pumpkins on straw to conserve moisture and reduce weeds.

🍩 Seeing how value-added products, including apple c***r donuts and slushies, help farms generate additional income beyond selling raw agricultural commodities.

The visit demonstrated how science, technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurship help keep a family farm successful across generations. We are thankful to Calvin Beasley for sharing his knowledge and experience with our members!

After lunch, we hit the road back to Kentucky with new knowledge and great memories from the 99th National FFA Convention! πŸ’™πŸ’›

A special thank-you to everyone who helped make this trip possible, especially Ambassador Kelly Craft for her generous donation supporting our members’ opportunity to attend!

πŸ’™πŸ’› 99th National FFA Convention Day 2 πŸ’™πŸ’›

What a busy and exciting day! We started the morning at Lucas Oil Stadium for the FFA Opening Session, where we enjoyed the National FFA Chorus and Band, heard remarks from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, and listened to an inspiring keynote from Scott McKain!

Afterward, we explored the expo and FFA mall one more time before heading to the zoo to explore the exhibits and enjoy a behind-the-scenes walrus tour! πŸ¦πŸ¦’ We wrapped up the day with some fun at Topgolf! ⛳️

So many great experiences, memories, and opportunities to learn along the way! πŸ’™πŸ’›

KENTUCKY HAS A NATIONAL FFA OFFICER! πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸŽ‰

Congratulations to Aiden Manley of Menifee County FFA, who has been elected to serve as the 2026–2027 National FFA Eastern Region Vice President!

Being selected to serve on the six-member National FFA Officer Team is one of the highest honors an FFA member can receive. Aiden will represent more than one million FFA members across the country, serving as an advocate for agricultural education and inspiring the next generation of leaders.

We are incredibly proud of Aiden and cannot wait to see the impact he makes during his year of national service!

Kentucky FFA is cheering you on, Aiden! πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸ’™πŸ’› 99th National FFA Convention Day 1πŸ’›πŸ’™

Today, 7 Glasgow FFA members and Ms. Wyatt traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to attend National FFA Convention! πŸŽ‰

This opportunity was made possible in part by a generous donation from Ambassador Kelly Craft. We are incredibly grateful for her support in helping our members experience this exciting event and connect with the opportunities available through FFA!

Members explored the Expo Hall, where they learned about agricultural college programs and agribusinesses, checked out the FFA shopping mall, and ended the evening enjoying supper with the Morrisville-Eaton Middle/High School Agriculture Program FFA Chapter from New York!

When asked about their favorite parts of the day, the officer team shared meeting FFA members from across the country, watching the National FFA Band, and participating in the 50 States Jacket Challenge (You must find people in their FFA jackets from all 50 states and take a picture with them. One team is at 48!)πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Their most successful state so far? Finding Vermont!

We are thankful for the opportunities that allow our members to grow as leaders, build connections, and strengthen their future in agriculture. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the week brings! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Scotties from Mrs. Ragland’s class collaborated with the Introduction to Greenhouse students by removing seeds from okra harvested by Mrs. Laurie! They got hands-on experience with seed collection and learned how seeds can be saved for future planting. It was a great opportunity for our students to work together and learn something new! 🌿

Students have been learning about Kentucky agriculture! Each student chose a county in Kentucky to research and created an agriculture billboard showcasing the agriculture found in their county.

Today, students had the opportunity to share their billboards with one another and learn more about agriculture throughout the state! 🌱

At the end of class, students voted on their favorite billboards, and these were our top 3! πŸ† Congratulations to our winners, and great job to everyone on their projects! πŸ’š
