GotUr6.org "I've got your 6!" means I've got your back. Our mission is to serve those who have served us. What does GotUr6 mean? We GotUr6!

During World War I, pilots began using positions on the clock face to identify points of interest, other ally aircraft or even threat aircraft to their formations and crewmembers as a quick, efficient and easily understood way of describing position relative to the aircraft giving these directions. The Flight Lead did most of the communication so anything in front of the aircraft would be 12 o’clo

ck and anything behind him in his blind spot would be 6 o’clock. It became a promise for support, safety and protection under austere and deadly conditions among military and law enforcement everywhere. The phrase became much more than just a way to give position over radio communications but as a way to tell a brother, a friend, a teammate or just someone you are concerned that you are there for them. That you have their best interests at heart and you are not only concerned for their well-being but will do anything within your ability to protect them, guide them, and keep them safe. This responsibility and courage to protect/support your “brother in arms” is the soul and focus of GotUr6.org. To exhibit that self-sacrifice and compassion to help those from not only in our military veteran community but also First Responders from Law Enforcement and Firefighting that may have physical or emotional scars that are still raw and unhealed; that may have financial obligations that are weighing heavily; or are unable to travel to get medication, counseling or continued treatments from the VA and other qualified providers. GotUr6 is dedicated to helping across the full spectrum of available assistance and referrals to include but not limited toward repairs or modifications for adaptive housing or a service dog for a disability or impairment. Warriors and First Responders have defended our majestic country and her allies from aggressors foreign and within; they have responded to natural and manmade disasters around the globe without concern or thought for personal safety; they have rescued a child from dangerous circumstances; they have made safe a home compromised by a criminal, and also saved a home built from decades of love and memories from being destroyed by flames. Many are injured or killed in performing these selfless acts of heroism and self-sacrifice. Now it is time for America to return the favor to our hometown hero’s. Let us know your needs or how you would like to help this great effort.

The violent incident on Sherman Street this week serves as a stark reminder of the immense bravery required of law enforcement and specifically highlights the heroism of Buffalo Police Department, Officer Marc Hurst.

Responding to domestic violence calls is widely recognized as one of the most volatile, unpredictable, and dangerous duties a first responder can face. When Officer Hurst and his fellow C District officers arrived at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2026, they found themselves protecting family members inside an extremely tense and rapidly evolving situation.

The Incident on Sherman Street:

The call brought officers to a residence on Sherman Street, where an agitated suspect had barricaded himself inside a kitchen area. Understanding the immediate threat posed to the family members present, who pleaded for police intervention, Officer Hurst and his team moved in to de-escalate the situation and take the individual into custody.

During the struggle to place the suspect in handcuffs, the man suddenly reached for a concealed firearm and opened fire at point-blank range.

Officer Hurst was struck a total of six times during the violent encounter:

• Once in each calf.
• Once in the upper thigh.
• Once in the upper arm.
• Twice in his bulletproof vest, with rounds directly striking his radio and taser.

Despite the chaos and life-threatening conditions, the officers’ training immediately took over. While fellow officers returned fire to neutralize the threat, they simultaneously rendered critical, life-saving aid to Officer Hurst before he was rushed to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).

“The officers on scene did an excellent job rendering aid. I cannot say enough about their training, how it kicked in, and how they responded.” — Buffalo Police Commissioner Erika Shields.

A Career Defined by Service:

Officer Marc Hurst is a dedicated nine-year veteran of the Buffalo Police Department, proudly serving the city’s C District. This week’s act of valor is only the latest example in a long history of selfless service to the Buffalo community.

Long before this incident, Officer Hurst had already demonstrated his willingness to put his life on the line for others. During the historic and deadly December 2022 Buffalo Blizzard, a storm many first responders described as an absolute war zone, Officer Hurst worked tirelessly on the front lines. Battling zero-visibility conditions, he and fellow officers rescued countless stranded motorists throughout the city.

In one of the most memorable moments of that historic storm response, Officer Hurst personally carried a newborn baby boy, still wrapped in a hospital blanket, from a stranded vehicle and safely into his patrol car to protect him from the life-threatening cold.

The Path to Recovery:

Following successful surgery at ECMC, medical staff and police officials report that Officer Hurst has received a very positive prognosis. He has officially begun what will likely be a long road to recovery.

Since the shooting, the Buffalo community, local leadership, and law enforcement agencies across Western New York have shown an overwhelming outpouring of support, gratitude, and prayers for the veteran officer.

The suspect has since been charged with first-degree attempted murder, along with several additional pending charges, as the investigation continues.

Officer Hurst’s actions on Sherman Street represent the very highest ideals of public safety: stepping directly into harm’s way to protect vulnerable citizens and fellow community members.

Extremely devastating incident that I regrettably have to share with all of you.

Not only did we lose Vernon but a young mother and her 4 year old child tragically passed in this incident. I feel it proper to not only remember our brother and his family at this very devastating time but also the two other beautiful souls lost.

I feel very close with many members of the OK Highway patrol and consider many of them my dear friends. They hosted tons of our trainings in the past and have been wonderful partners for about a decade.

Please know that while I can’t be there I feel the loss and am with you in my thoughts and prayers. Again, I’m so sorry to everyone who is affected by this horrible tragedy.

Hey Vernon, thanks for being a hero. We will always remember you for that. You meant a lot to this world. I’m not quite sure how we continue without you. Rest easy my brother.
