🌲Habitat Restoration Update – Cedar River Corridor (Gladwin City Park)🌲

District staff and volunteers planted and caged more than 70 Northern White Cedar trees (Thuja occidentalis) last week and into this week as part of our ongoing invasive species management and habitat restoration efforts along the Cedar River Corridor (Gladwin City Park).

Thank you to Central Michigan Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area - CISMA and the Clare-Gladwin Forester for coming out and helping us with this project. And thank you so much to our volunteer Tom who came out every single day to help us!

A special thank you to the Consumers Energy Foundation Planet Grant for supporting this project with a generous grant. Your partnership is helping us restore and protect our natural spaces for years to come.

πŸ›πŸ‚ We found this little guy (a "Woolly Bear" Caterpillar) making his way across the trail at City Park! According to folklore, his stripes might give us a hint about what kind of winter is ahead.

Let us know in the comments below what your prediction for the coming winter based on his pattern are! Mild and easy, or are we in for a long, cold, snowy one?

The Gladwin Conservation District will be planting trees at Gladwin City Park for a few days this week as we continue working to improve and restore habitat. Meet by the rustic cabins on the south end of the campground.

Anyone is welcome to join us! Whether you can help for an hour or spend the day, we’d love to have you there. Bring a water, gloves, and appropriate outdoor attire. Some gloves will be available to use if needed.

Lunch will be provided for anyone who joins.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and spent a couple of hours with us, EGLE staff, and Little Forks Conservancy to learn about the Cedar River Watershed, it's health, projects, and ways people can get involved.
