Head Start is more than preschool. It's a foundation for lifelong success. For this Canoga Park parent, the Head Start program provided her daughter with the support, encouragement and resources she needed to overcome fears, thrive in the classroom, and confidently move on to kindergarten. Today her daughter is excelling academically – reading at an advanced level and excelling in math.

But the impact reached beyond the classroom. Head Start gave this mom the opportunity to finish her career, find meaningful employment, and know that her daughter's needs were being supported every step of the way.

This evening, the NKC Schools Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Katie Lawson as the next Assistant Superintendent of Academics. She will begin serving in this role in July 2027 following the retirement of Dr. Chad Sutton. Congratulations!
