We’re so proud of Josh and all that he has and continues to accomplish! Keep up the hard work - you deserve it!

Today marks 1 year of sobriety for Josh. ❤️

One year ago, we rushed to the hospital to support him.

Today, we get to celebrate something much bigger.

One year sober. One year of choosing a different life. One year of fighting for himself.

Josh’s story is one of resilience, second chances, and what can happen when someone keeps going—even when the road gets hard.

We are so incredibly proud of you, Josh. ❤️

Rooted is a ministry of Good Shepherd UMC, created to help meet practical needs in our community. While Rooted is a part of Good Shepherd, the program is housed here at A Turning Point, allowing the two organizations to work together to make an even greater impact.

Through Rooted, essential goods are collected and made available to help support individuals and families who are navigating difficult seasons. It’s a beautiful example of what can happen when organizations come together, share resources, and find ways to serve our neighbors with dignity.

Our team works a little differently, and as a result our outcomes look a little different too.

Word of the Week — REENTRY

The corrections and prison system is a hard one to talk about.

You did the crime. Do the time.

But was a correctional facility built on correcting behavior? On addressing root causes? On preparing someone to return to the world and build a different life?

Maybe, to some extent.

But then we watch some of our clients re-enter the “system” over and over again. We’ve met people who have spent the majority of their lives in prison. Not in one long stint necessarily. But out. And back in again. And out. And back in.

And then they get out. Again.

Where do I go?

Maybe shared living or a sober house is an option. But you need money to get in. You need a job. You need someone willing to hire you. And even then, it takes time to get that first paycheck while rent is already due.

Every step feels like another obstacle.

All of it is overwhelming.
All of it requires help.

You’re re-entering a world where you’ve failed before. Sometimes more than once. And when everything feels unfamiliar and impossible, it can be easier to return to what you know.

Run. Hide. Go back to what feels comfortable.

This last week, we went again to a prison. To visit a longtime client who had been in this cycle. This time he had been there for a year and a half so far.

Prior to visiting, we thought:

What if what he needs is a visit?

What if those four hours could provide even a little hope for a different life after prison?

What if we could simply let someone feel loved. Someone who had never had a visitor walk through those prison doors for them?

What if dreams could begin to feel possible?

What if hope could become something solid to hold onto before those doors ever open?

So we go.

We show up.

Sometimes it begins with a conversation. A visit. Someone showing up and reminding you that you haven’t been forgotten.

And then it continues after those doors open, when the world feels overwhelming and the path forward isn’t clear.

We show up when you re-enter.

We help you work on the plans we made while we visited. We help you take those plans and turn them into a real life on the outside.

This time, you don’t have to figure it all out alone. You have a team. People who know your story, believe in what’s possible, and will walk beside you as you build something different.

There is a different way.

Hope!

Word of the Week: HOPE

That man under the bridge.
That guy curled up on the sidewalk.
That lady screaming on the corner.
That man talking to himself, interacting with objects we cannot see.
That woman in the wheelchair staring down.
That guy holding a sign.
That young kid wandering, looking hopeless and lost.

They have names. They have pasts.
Some have told us the most unimaginable things that happened to them.
We know their pains. We know their joys. We know their names.

We don’t know which single moment could help change their life.
But we do know this: we will keep showing up.
To listen. To sit. To care.
To remind them they are not alone.
To give hope when hope feels gone.

Hope is where we begin with people.
And slowly, with trust, relationship, and someone willing to walk beside them, more becomes possible. A pathway to stability begins.

Our outreach team meets with them everyday, right where they are at.
