Fun Fact Friday!

We love adventures big and small! We’re looking forward to being part of the Four Valleys Community School Girdwood Explorers program. Over the course of three afternoons, participants will go on bike riding adventures to the Forest Service station to harvest potatoes, to the Food Pantry to donate the harvested potatoes, and around town. Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know/notice that this week we experienced our first (astronomical) darkness in our region for the season?

Astronomical darkness is when the sun is more than 18 degrees below the horizon, so that the sky no longer receives any leftover sunlight. There are three steps in between daylight and astronomical darkness:
-civil twilight (sun at 0-6 degrees below the horizon, when it's still fairly bright out)
-nautical twilight (sun at 6-12 degrees, when both the horizon and bright stars are visible)
-astronomical twilight (sun at 12-18 degrees, when it's pretty dark with lingering scattered light).
