Every day, perfectly good food gets thrown away—while families nearby go hungry. At South County Community Services, we're changing that, one rescued grocery item at a time.

This work fights two crises at once: food waste and food insecurity. Last year alone, we rescued 3,470,800 pounds of food, helping provide millions of meals across South County Santa Clara.

After a year of working closely with our case management team, Jerry has reached an incredible milestone—he is now housed!

Throughout his journey, SCCS case managers provided consistent support, including case management, food, hygiene supplies, and daily encouragement to help him move closer to his goals. Jerry’s perseverance and hard work paid off, and he is deeply grateful to everyone who supported him along the way.

His next goal is to find employment and continue building a stable, independent future. Jerry hopes his story encourages others to keep moving forward and remember that hard work, patience, and the right support can make a difference.

Congratulations, Jerry! We are proud to be part of your journey and excited to see what comes next.

🏠 Housing Problem Solving helps people experiencing a housing crisis identify safe, realistic solutions by building on their strengths, support systems, and available resources. The process is different for every person—and success requires creativity, partnership, perseverance, and hope.

Antonio recently shared his experience after working closely with our team and putting tremendous effort into finding a housing solution:

“I can say, if you really want something, all you have to do is put a little bit of effort into it. It is not easy, but it is possible. My success story has just started because this is only the beginning—with all my effort and with God’s help. Stay tuned to see the real success.”

The gift of a car is so much more than transportation—it is the gift of time, freedom, and opportunity. ❤️

A wonderful couple recently donated this vehicle to TJ and Paul, a family supported by South County Community Services. They worked incredibly hard to overcome homelessness and continue taking important steps toward lasting stability.

Reliable transportation means TJ and Paul can get to medical appointments and take care of other essential needs without spending hours traveling by bus or bicycle. It removes a major barrier and gives them greater independence and more time to focus on building their future.

We are deeply grateful to this generous couple for recognizing a need and responding in such a meaningful way. Their kindness has put greater stability—and new possibilities—within reach for TJ and Paul. 🚗❤️

Backpacks, big smiles, and a wonderful start to the school year! 🎒📚

We are incredibly grateful to Central Christian Church - San Martin for generously providing backpacks to children in our community. Each backpack filled with school supplies gives a child confidence, excitement, and the tools they need to begin the school year ready to learn.

Eduardo recently shared how SCCS’s services have made a difference in his life:

“I became unhoused in 2025 and struggled to find employment. During that time, I lived outside and slept in my car. Even after finding a job, I could not save enough for a security deposit and first month’s rent. Each day, I had to find somewhere to shower and a safe place to sleep.

This program helped me so much. I had a safe place to sleep, prepare my meals, and take a shower while I worked toward stable housing. I am deeply thankful for all the help and support I received. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.”

Through SCCS’s programs and support, Eduardo was able to maintain his employment and move into permanent housing. SCCS provided his security deposit and first month’s rent, helping remove the final financial barrier standing between him and a home of his own.

We are honored to have walked alongside Eduardo on his path from homelessness to housing.

They didn’t give up on me.

For years, Robert lived in his car, facing the uncertainty and challenges of homelessness every day.

Then he found South County Community Services.

Robert connected with our case management team, and together they began working toward housing. It wasn’t immediate, and it wasn’t always easy. But our case managers kept showing up. They kept making calls, completing applications, navigating barriers, and pushing forward alongside him.

Six months later, Robert had a place to call home. 🏠

In this video, Robert shares his journey and what it meant to have people in his corner who simply would not give up.

His story is a powerful reminder that moving from homelessness to housing often takes time, persistence, trust, and someone willing to keep walking beside you.

We are incredibly proud of Robert—and grateful for our wonderful SCCS case managers who work every day to help our neighbors find a path toward stability.

This is why we keep pushing forward. Because housing changes everything.

Thank you, St. Mary Parish Gilroy, for reminding us what community looks like. ❤️

This third weekend of the month, August 15-16, is "Can Sunday." The parish asks parishioners to bring a can or other non-perishable foodstuff to Mass. The collected foodstuffs will be given to South County Community Services, as it runs Gilroy's largest foodbank.

Este tercer fin de semana del mes, los 15 y 16 de agosto, se celebra el "Domingo de la Lata". La parroquia pide a los feligreses que lleven una lata u otro alimento no perecedero a Misa. Los alimentos recolectados se entregarán a South County Community Services, organización que gestiona el banco de alimentos más grande de Gilroy.
