🚁✈️ Did you know that if a major emergency or disaster impacts our community, there is a plan in place to help ensure South County residents continue to receive critical food and supplies?

This weekend, South County Community Services participated in the South County Airport Pilots Association (SCAPA) Disaster Airlift Response Team (DART) emergency exercise at the San Martin Airport. DART is made up of dedicated volunteer pilots who stand ready to fly emergency food, supplies, and resources into South County when traditional transportation routes may be disrupted.

For this exercise, we conducted a reverse drill, providing food supplies that were airlifted to neighboring communities such as Hollister and Paso Robles—demonstrating how communities can work together to support one another during times of crisis.

A special thank you to the incredible volunteer pilots who donate their time, skills, and aircraft to keep our communities prepared and connected. After the exercise, they even treated SCCS team members Oscar and Andy to a flight experience they won't soon forget!

Preparedness, partnership, and community make all the difference. We are grateful to SCAPA and DART for helping ensure that when disaster strikes, help can take flight. ❤️✈️🚁

🇺🇸 As our nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is honoring the occasion through an incredible act of service—donating 250 truckloads of food across all 50 states.

We are grateful that one of these trucks made a stop right here in Gilroy, delivering more than 16,000 pounds of much-needed food supplies to support families throughout South County.

Pictured here are Carl Woodland, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Oscar, SCCS Pantry Coordinator. Their partnership reflects what can happen when organizations come together with a shared commitment to serving others.

This generous donation helps strengthen our ability to provide nutritious food to our neighbors facing food insecurity and reminds us of the power of community, compassion, and service. Thank you to everyone involved in making this gift possible and helping ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

Together, we continue building stronger, healthier communities—one meal, one family, and one act of kindness at a time. ❤️

There is something truly beautiful about a community that shows up for its neighbors.

Shoutout to Tammy Stone and the incredible team from SVCC Gilroy! This week, they showed up for our unhoused neighbors, bringing warm meals and even warmer hearts to those who needed it most.

Thank you, Tammy, and everyone from South Valley Community Church who gave their time this week.

Every Monday and Wednesday, something beautiful happens at the Salvation Army. 💙

From 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, our Shower and Laundry Program opens its doors to our unhoused neighbors — offering not just clean clothes and a warm shower, but something even more powerful: a moment of dignity, care, and connection.

While they wait, unhoused neighbors are welcomed with hot coffee and fresh breakfast danishes. They are a gathering place where familiar faces, caring volunteers, and trusted case managers come together to make everyone feel a little less alone.

These mornings are more than a service. They are a reminder that every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported — no matter their circumstances. None of this would be possible without the incredible hearts behind it. To our volunteers, donors, and community partners: thank you.

It takes a community working together to create lasting change.

At SCCS, we’re proud to partner with HomeFirst Services of Santa Clara County to support our South County neighbors on their path from the streets to stability.

It’s agencies coming together—combining resources, strengths, and expertise—that creates the greatest impact in a community.

HomeFirst operates and manages the year-round shelter in Gilroy, while SCCS provides case management services that help individuals move forward toward permanent housing.

Our case managers, Bri and Edith, walk alongside clients every step of the way—helping them get an ID, find clothing, attend medical appointments, apply for jobs, connect to benefits, and navigate the many barriers that can stand in the way of stability. These may seem like small steps, but they are powerful milestones.

Each step builds trust. Each step creates opportunity. Each step moves someone closer to independence.

Behind every success is someone navigating stress, uncertainty, and the daily challenge of meeting basic needs like food, rest, and safety.

Together, we’re turning small steps into lasting change.

We are so grateful for volunteers like Aaron, who has been serving with our Shower and Laundry Program since 2024. From the very beginning, Aaron knew he was making a meaningful difference, but what impacted him most were the relationships he built with the clients we serve. Some of his favorite memories are seeing clients move from homelessness into housing and stability.

As Aaron heads off to Elk Grove University to pursue his dream of serving humanity through a career in the medical field, we want to thank him for the compassion, kindness, and dedication he brought to SCCS. We know he has an incredible future ahead, and we are proud to have been part of his journey. 💙

A huge thank you to Central Christian Church - San Martin for stepping up to support our community! They simply asked for food donations for neighbors who are struggling, and the gifts poured in.

When times get tough, this community knows how to show up, come together, and care for one another. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and kindness of everyone who contributed to help support local families in need. ❤️

What a great day connecting with community partners like Josue Barajas from Second Harvest of Silicon Valley and so many others at the Nonprofit Convergence hosted by Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits.

The day was filled with learning, strengthening partnerships, sharing ideas, and renewing our commitment to work together and strategize for the challenges ahead. It is through collaboration and shared knowledge that we can continue creating meaningful impact for the individuals and families we serve every day.

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing volunteers from AAA! 🌟

This week, as part of AAA's Month of Impact, their incredible team showed up — not once, but TWICE — to support our grocery distribution here at South County Community Services. Their energy, generosity, and helping hands made a real difference for the families we serve.

It takes a community to build a community, and AAA is a shining example of that. We are incredibly grateful for partners who roll up their sleeves and show up with such big hearts.

Thank you, AAA, for your commitment to making an impact — we felt every bit of it!
