Upshur County Literacy Program

Upshur County Literacy Program The mission of this organization is to promote literacy by providing quality educational services free of charge to meet the needs of the community.

We are open M-W 8:00-11:30 and 1:00-4:30. The Upshur County Library Literacy Program began in 1988 with a Federal Library grant submitted by Sue Williams. We operate solely on funds we receive through grants and corporate and individual donations. We are pleased and proud to carry on the work begun by the late Sue Williams, founder, and director. She continued this work until she passed away in 20

11 and is sorely missed. The UCLP was selected as one of twenty projects worldwide to appear in a special display of Community Concerns at the International Rotary Conference in Nice, France in 1994. In 1995, the UCLP was the award recipient of the Project of the Year by the Northeast Texas Library System.

We are seeking support for essential supplies to help our literacy program run effectively. School supplies such as notebooks, pencils, and books allow students to fully participate and build critical reading and writing skills. Cleaning supplies are equally important to maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment where students can focus and learn. These resources ensure our program can continue making a positive impact in our community.
