Gilmer County Shop with a Hero

Directions

Gilmer County Shop with a Hero The Gilmer County Shop with a Hero Holiday event puts a new twist on the national "Shop with a Cop" initiative.

That aims to foster lasting bonds and mentorship between children and heroes. It collaborates with the City of Ellijay Police Foundation, Gilmer County School System, Gilmer County Wal-Mart, local, state, and federal heroes, along with numerous community volunteers. Around 75 Gilmer County children engage in a morning filled with activities alongside their heroes, starting with breakfast, art projects, a visit from Santa, cookie decorating, and receiving gifts donated by community organizations. Following this, all children and volunteers board buses escorted by a convoy of over 50 public safety and military vehicles to Wal-Mart. Here, they are paired with a hero and given gift cards for shopping. The aim is to foster lasting bonds and mentorship between the children and heroes.

Thank you all for helping make the day so special!

Earlier today, our middle school LadyCat and high school LadyCat basketball teams had the privilege to take part in Shop with a Hero. The High School LadyCats took the early shift with crafts and carols & the CCMS LadyCats joined the kids for some shopping. It was a great opportunity to give back to our community in a really meaningful way.

Our girls really enjoyed spending time with the kids and showing what it looks like to be a positive role model. Experiences like this remind us that being a hero goes beyond the court, and we’re proud of the way our athletes represented our school and community.
