Hi everyone,

Who would be up for helping to teach the Full ML student course on April 18 & 19, 2026 at HSC? Please let John H and I know if you can help out. Dale and I have had a few folks ask about it so it will most likely be a larger course.

Have a great holiday weekend coming up,

Tim

6 Scouts and 4 volunteer staff opened Hidden Valley's first NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation Program at Resident Camp last week.

The NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation Program is a District or Council organized activity that allows scouts the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safety shoot a specific model of handgun under the supervision of an NRA Range Safety Officer and instruction by an NRA Certified Instructor in Basic Pistol Shooting, and is the only pistol program currently available in Scouting American.

Thanks to the generosity of Sig Sauer, Hidden Valley is introducing scouts to the P322 semi-automatic pistol in .22LR.

The topping out ceremony is held once the last beam is placed atop a structure. There is evidence that this practice dates to at least 700 AD. Scandinavian mythology at the time held that each tree had a spirit of its own, and that people originated from trees and returned to trees after death.

Today at Griswold Scout Reservation
The new handicraft building was completed and the Topping Out Ceremony took place

Thanks all involved

The topping out ceremony has a long history for timber framing and is a wonderful ritual we continue still to this day.
