University of Illinois Extension is offering the Certified Food Protection Manager Course at three locations this year. This one-day training (9 AM-7 PM) covers key food safety topics like contamination, hygiene, safe food handling, cleaning and sanitizing, and HACCP systems. It meets Illinois Department of Public Health requirements, and participants must attend the full session to take the exam. Lunch is included.

Dates & Locations:
• June 1 - Vermilion County Extension Office (Danville)
• July 27 - Ford-Iroquois Counties Extension Office (Gilman)
• December 1 - Champaign County Farm Bureau Auditorium (Champaign)

Cost: $60 youth | $100 adults (includes materials, exam, and lunch)
Space is limited—preregistration required.

There is no better way to check what’s going on in a crop field than to take a walk down a row.

Youth looking to strengthen their agronomy skills or share what they already know can do so while competing with a team at the Youth Crop Scouting Competition with Illinois Extension on Aug. 4 in Champaign.

The one-day state competition is open to 10 high school teams. All teams receive lunch and a competition t-shirt. The top four teams receive cash prizes of $500, $300, $200, and $100.

The top two teams will also advance to represent the state at the Midwest Regional Competition hosted in Illinois for the first time on Sept. 12.
