Had the pleasure of working with Freddie Gillespie and Joyce Greenleaf with the SB Stewardship Committee yesterday at Breakneck Hill Conservation Land in Southborough, MA. We tugged out a whole lot of porcelainberry growing in the sumac. Freddie does incredible work for the native bees and I am inspired every time I visit her. Please come to one of her open houses like this one coming up: https://www.ecolandscaping.org/new-events-calendar/

We've been managing ip's along a 5 mile stretch of the Westfield River near Chesterfield Gorge for DCR for nearly 10 years. The results are amazing. Sure there's a little knotweed here and there, but nothing like it was. Special thanks to Jess Applin who managed this project for many years. You did a great job!

Phase 2 Seeding Cover Crop Complete.
Cultipacking and seeding buckwheat cover crop at Millers Meadow Greenfield MA with Bruce Scherer, Heritage Fields Farm.
The soil was fluffy after the second disk harrow about two weeks ago. That means that a footprint sinks about an inch. Seeds need a firm seed bed, that's why we used the cultipacker to firm things up. Seeding took place next followed by even more cultipacking to snug the seed into the soil a half inch or so. We'll have thunderstorms next week due to the hot weather. I'll keep an eye on the germination and document in subsequent photos.
